Re: vst autofader?
Adobe Audition has a "fade in" and "fade out" listed in the effects.
Any DAW with automation could be set up to perform this task quite easily.

If you use a Host;
MadTracker has some good Envelopes for Fading and Fadeout !
And here is a good list of Low CPU VSTi's:

Re: vst autofader?
Every DAW has its own fade in fade out plug ins. And there is also some programs that you'll the one that will automate it. Meaning you'll will record your automation: how you control the volume faders. Try to get yourself a DAW and figure it out.

Re: vst autofader?
Are we missing something here? How is an autofader used?
Audition IS a DAW. It performs destructive fades in Edit View (Favorites>Fade Out), and non-destructive fades in Multitrack View (envelopes). So I realize this was posted in the General Audio forum, but you're not going to beat the value of Audition as a DAW. It just doesn't happen to do fades while recording (and most don't, since the purpose of recording isn't to modify the data WHILE recording it), but does host VST effects.
Why someone would want to record the fades from the start is beyond me, seeing as there is no remedy if you get it wrong. But horses for courses. If the OP is still interested, maybe some details would help us.

Re: vst autofader?
Perhaps the OP is asking about external fader automation with automation envelopes.
