Dynamics Processing

When do you use "limit hard" or Limit soft" with processing dynamics? Why would you do this?

Why not: parametric EQ a track / see how it sounds with others in a mix / make a 2 trk mix / hardlimit the mix / then premaster graphic EQ?

Here you're hardlimiting the final mix. what about limit hard / soft? (depends on the babe?)
