You are making two separate statements
Quote
1. Your money goes to fund additional research and development.
Reply To #1 - True / Deceptive advertising should not be the means where Adobe extracts this money from customers.
Your reply is a bit of a
non-sequitur.
Advertising wasn't mentioned, and there is no suggestion that this is the means of extracting funding. This is clearly implied to be voluntary - it suggests that you might like to consider yourself as part of an ongoing program.

2. If you don't want to support that, then I suggest you stop buying the product.
Reply to #2 - We buy a product because it is offered to us to buy. We support
fair and just
marketing to sell this product. I suggest you stop being a salesman for Adobe and look at what they're doing without rose-colored glasses. How are you connected to Adobe? Reveal all now. Truth in advertising.
I don't think he is connected to Adobe at all. And if you read Adobe's advertising - well, it may be a bit on the optimistic side sometimes, but compared to, say, Creative Labs - who have lied through their teeth, and had class actions against them as a result, this is tame stuff. I think that you should stop looking at
advertising
through rose-tinted specs! Truth in advertising? IMHO that's about as likely to happen as a network news bulletin with only good news in it. Sort-of the same thing, only the other way around...
If you want to read a comment from somebody who's actually seen and used the product, then go back to the beginning of the thread and read mine - which I'll qualify a bit more after at least the demo is released. I can't do this now, because it would go beyond the bounds of the press release.
I
have no financial connection with Adobe at all, incidentally, and receive no incentives whatsoever to tow (or even toe!) the party line.

1.- Adobe's not doing any deceptive advertising, they are just telling you what's up, nor can they force anybody to buy it.
2.- My only connection to Adobe is I am a customer of the Audition product. I am not employed by them in any way, nor am I a beta tester. So you understand how I feel, I'll give you a little background....
I started out with Opcode's Vision Midi Sequencing program...It was about $350 10-12 years ago. I even had a $400 Opcode Studio 4 midi controller. Every so often they'd come out with an update, usually priced at around $100 or so..... I think I bought one upgrade, but that was it....they kept coming out with a few upgrades that I didn't buy, and apparently not too many other people did either, as the company went broke. They eventually sold the company off to Gibson Guitar Co, who in turn put the product on the shelf, stopped all development and let the product die out. They did release an XP driver for some of the Opcode midi controllers, but said that was it, no more driver support for any other OS....
So you see, if a product's development isn't supported, eventually the company stops development and the product dies. I don't want that to happen to Audition, what was once Cool Edit.....let the progress continue.
You see, I didn't want Opcode's Vision program to die out, and I wish I had a good working version of it now that would work with XP, but it's not gonna happen. So in the meantime, I'm looking for a sequencer that has similar features. Sonar is okay, but a little clunky....the new Audition sequencer looks like it'll be very easy to use, so I'm really looking forward to using it....and I consider the new upgrade of midi support within Audition, a blessing. You should be thanking Adobe, not beating them up.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Audition 3 is officially certified for Window's Vista OS. To many people that is a good thing.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
Good points DJ - All I am saying is that as I bought my AA 2.0 license in late July 2007, Adobe should have 1. given me a heads up on a new release coming soon, and / or 2. give me a free update to AA 3.0 as I bought my AA 2.0 license very recently and not one year ago. American business practice. Other US companies have product update disclaimers and time limits with free updates granted if consumers buy offered products close to time of product. How is Adobe different?
I could reply to you, if you don't like to do business fairly, you shouldn't but Adobe Audition. How dare you support misinterpretation and confusion of product offering to the public? Remember this is not a private deal between you and a software creator. We (you and I) buy software offered by a publically traded company (Adobe), and as a result we have rights to integrity of the products we buy from that software company. At least that is how it works in the USA.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
I would suggest you talk to Adobe about it, not me. I don't work for Adobe, so I can't speak for them.
I can understand your frustration. With Opcode it was similar for me as they came out with a $100 upgrade right after I bought the program, then were coming out with $100 upgrades every few months....it got old fast, it really was asking too much......

I'm not doing anything of the sort. If anything you're posting false and misleading information about me....I do NOT work for Adobe, I do NOT get paid by Adobe.....never have.

If Adobe's advertising was misleading enough to be actionable, then somebody in America, the most litigious country in the world bar none,
would
have bought an action against them. AFAIK, this hasn't happened - QED.

Just for kicks, I setup my old Apple LCIII computer with the old Opcode Visions program....hey it still works, and still is kind of cool...maybe I'll use it with some of my outboard sound modules.

LF,
I would HIGHLY suggest putting in a call to Adobe. It's entirely possible that they would be willing to work with you.
Personally, I think you have a very valid complaint. I've seen you around for a long time, so I know you're a long-time customer. I would think Adobe would want to attempt to keep you happy, but I don't know for sure. It's certainly worth a try. I wouldn't wait any longer, though. I would put in the call NOW.

...and the previous upgrade has been around for >18 months, so one might naturally be expecting something new to come along in the not-too-distant future.
In fact, if I recall correctly, Audition 3 was mentioned by Adobe
very
early this year as being due for release "later" this year. That fact has been mentioned more than once on these forums.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
But the advance publicity might have encouraged people to upgrade to 2.0 so they could upgrade to 3.0 - nobody had a clue that they could skip 2.0 and go straight to 3.0 from 1.0 or 1.5 - which I'd view as kind of generous pricing for many, and a catch for a small group of recent upgraders. But then at what point do they say "ok, you can have a free upgrade?" - there's always got to be a cutoff point, and there's always going to be someone who falls a day the wrong side of it.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
No sorry, I do not agree with the people saying that Adobe should have said this or said that about new version releases. Are you going to go after record companies for not telling you that an artist's single is going to be on the next album and so don't bother buying the single now? Are you going after airlines for not telling you that your ticket could be found on the internet much cheaper, and are you going after shops for not telling you that they have a sale next month when everything will be half-price? This kind of "kindness" you're after just does not exist in business, you're totally mistaken. Besides, software companies announce a thing when it's ready, and the V3 team leader probably got the green light to announce V3 the night before it was put on the Adobe site.
Some software companies offer free upgrades for life, and I was asking earlier in the thread whether this really is an upgrade or a significant re-design, and why skip 2.5? I think things might be clearer when we know this .. if it isn't strictly speaking an upgrade to V2, then all point about upgrades will become moot. I would not call it an upgrade if AA2 settings and session files do not open in AA3. Or .. is AA3 the Vista version of AA2, or what would have been AA2.5?

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
Some software companies offer a free upgrade if you have bought an earlier version within a certain period - others don't. You can refuse to buy this upgrade in the hope that Adobe will be punished in the marketplace by that action, or you can simply decide whether or not the upgrade now advertised will or will not be worth the money to you.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
I admit that I, too, am miffed at the pricing structure. I would have held onto 1.5 and went straight to 3.0 if I had known it would have been the same price.
I would be far more agreeable if 1.5 users had to pay a higher price to upgrade to 3.0 than 2.0 users.

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
Just a note for UK users of AA2 re the upgrade price to AA3.
It's available from Amazon
slightly
cheaper than direct from Adobe. Still not equivalent to $99 though!
