Hi,

I am a new member and relatively new with Audition 2.0 (used CEP quite a bit though).

I just purchased a Tapco Link.USB audio interface to replace my Zoom H4 (used as a makeshift AI). I connected my Rode NA1-A condenser and recorded a vocal track last night using Audition 2.0 on a HP duel core CPU with Windows Media Center XP. Here are the problems I experienced:

1. ASIO4ALL worked but sound is not accurate on playback (slowed and make my voice deeper).

2. Tapco ASIO driver works fine at 'lowest' setting on recording and playbackvia headphone through Tapco's. But after I turn off Tapco Link-USB and do editing in Audition 2.0 with Windows soundcard via my PC, my voice became deep again (very similar to that ASIO4ALL result).

3. Mixdown of this track gives no sound when playing in any other player outside of Audition (such as Media Player).

I also notice my mic via Tapco shows up as mono only in Audition and can't set up as stereo. I could set my mic as stereo with my Zoom H4.

Can anyone help?

I am debating if I should return this Tapco and get a Firewire AI. I read so many bad reviews on Firewire cards with WMC and that is why I picked a USB.

Any suggestion for which firewire AI? My short list now (if any works):

Firepod (Firebox)

MUTO Ultralite (Pre8)

I don't need many inputs (2 enough for now). I just need something that gives me decent vocal recording tracks. or are there USB 2.0 card out there?

Sorry for the long post. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is your mic a stereo mic? (the H4 has a pair of onboard mics so there is some point in recording multi track on a source)

If not, arming a track as stereo doesn't create a stereo track merely redundant dual mono . . .

Problems with the pitch of your recording will be due to the soundcard and Audition not agreeing about sample rate. Make sure the Tapco is set to the same sample rate as Audition is recording in. If either is set differently then it will record OK but the saved file will have the incorrect info about the sample rate when opened and played back by another device or software.

Thanks for your response.

No, my mic (Rode condenser) is not stereo and I am not using the on-board XY mics. I understand my vocal will always be mono. Using my Rode mic through the Zoom H4, it records in stereo mode (L and R identifcal of course). No big deal with mono, but it just confused me a bit and needed to adjust my monitoring setup.

I thought some effects plug-ins do not work unless it is stereo. I could be wrong though.

So when you use your AI to record vocal , it only comes in as mono?

Thanks.

This makes sense. I will check that. Is the sample rate set in 'Preferences' in Audition?

If I use ASIO4ALL, how do I change sample rate?

Thanks.

Just a quick update.

I returned the Tapco and bought a Firebox. Installation was a breeze. It was so easy almost scary. I am running WMC so I was a bit apprehensive to go with Firewire. But so far so good. Firebox works well with my Desktop XP Media Center and Audition 2.0.

If only I can figure out how to enable DX effects on my laptop now.

Thanks for all your help!
