Just wanted to share this with u all...

We have tested and verified the following Digidesign soundcards to work with Audition 2.0 on a winxp system with sp2 (3.2ghz/512ram).  You will need to download and install the asio driver that Digidesign provides in order for that particular soundcard to show up in Audition 2.0.

The asio file version for the Mbox and 002 is 6.1.1 and can be downloaded here:
http://archive.digidesign.com/download/asio/

The asio file version for the 001 is Beta 5.3.3b2 and can be downloaded here:
http://archive.digidesign.com/download/asio/53.cfm

The asio drivers for the m-audio 2496 (pci version) can be downloaded here:
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

I have read on many forums folks asking about whether they can use these particular soundcards with AA2.0.  We have taken the liberty to test and verify these cards for compatibility with AA2.0.  Once the asio is installed, goto Audio Hardware setup and choose the appropriate audio driver for Edit and Multitrack view.  Also under monitoring, make sure u choose smart or always input with record enabled to hear incoming signal from the 001 and the 002.

Thank you for a helpful report and the links.  While most of us have avoided this hardware over the years due to poor or missing driver support, it's good to know that success may be had at long last!

No problem MC.  These tests were done on Dell gx280, Shuttle XPC and Carillon AC1 System.  I have added Audition 2.0 at our recording studio as our main DAW software.  There were simply too many limitations with protools LE and the costs of jumping from LE to HD was unfavorable (Digi002 - $999.00 /HD1 Core $7,995.00)

The only drawback with this change is the compatibility issue between the Tascam US2400 and AA2.0 (Only 8 tracks allowable).  I have been in contact with both Adobe and Tascam to see if that could be resolved.  This is still pending

Ooo ooo!  Can I have one please (sitting typing near the not-quiet-enough humming of computer fans)?

Hope you get some joy from Tascam and Adobe on that one.  Sounds like a great system.  Score another one (nearly) for Audition over ProTool$!

Except for the M-Audio 2496.  This has been recommended so often that surely we already knew it worked, and it certainly hasn't been avoided.

It was only the Digidesign interfaces that had poor MME/WDM support but were fine with ASIO.

The 2496 worked so well for me I upgraded that to a 1010LT which works just the same as the 2496, but with more input and output channels to work with. Presently both cards are in my computer, and they work well together.

Neither card works with Vista however, but M-Audio is supposedly working on new drivers to fix this.

Thanks for the pricing information, now I remeber why I have Audition.  grin

RealCruz, a question (not quite on topic) if you don't mind - what were the PT limitations you ran into that prompted the switch to AA?

Thanks,
Sean

Hey Sean...
Perhaps the biggest and most obvious limitation is the track count Protools LE offers: 32 track.  This track count is not necessarily accurate if you are using both mono and stereo tracks in your sessions (32 trk mono, 16 trk stereo). That may be ok for a few projects but what about the ones which needs more than 32?  I am completely aware of this music production toolkit which would give you 48 tracks mono or stereo, but why would I pay another $500 on top of the original purchase of the digi002 (original list price: $1,295.00) just to get another 16tracks?  Adobe came through by providing unlimited tracks (dependent on cpu, ram, etc) in Audition 2.0.

My other issues with Protools LE are somewhat minor in nature but still annoying.  Let me give 1 example here.  Lets say you have all 32 tracks used up but you would like to make some punch in corrections for 1 of the main vocals.  As soon as you attempt to do a punch, an error message appears basically saying that there are no tracks left to allocate for the punch.  Pretty ridiculous...

If you would like to get some other insights into Audition 2.0 and Protools (compare/contrast), check out this lnk:

huh Can someone help me please. I am using my MBOX 2 with AA2.0 but when I record vocals there is a feed back or some type of static in the vocal track. When I solo the vocal track I hear static or some type of feed back.

                                                                    Thank You
