Can AA sequence MIDI's for use with a VST? Sorry if this has been explained before but I'm a complete newb.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately no but importing is supported. At the moment you'll have to use a 3rd party program to record MIDI and preferably import the .wav into multitrack.
I myself use Sonar and Reason 3 for sounds and then use Audition for the output.
