Hi, everyone - my first post! Smiley

I'm using Audition 1.5 Tryout version and I have 24 days left to decide which version to buy.

As usual, money is a factor, but I need to know if there are vast differences between v 1.5 & v 2.0. I like the interface of 1.5 and, as a 'semi-pro' user, I have to keep my spending within a reasonable limit.

All advice welcome... Thanks,

John.

Welcome to the forum. That's the good news...

The bad news for you is that you don't have a choice about which version to buy - you can't obtain 1.5 any more, unless you are really lucky, and find a retailer with one left.

Hi, Steve, and thanks for your reply.

There's one here for £77.10 at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Adobe-Audition-1-5-Original_W0QQitemZ5877046362QQcategoryZ109010QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - I know that it's not advisable to buy software there, but this seller looks very correct, and I would in any case send it back, give him a negative feedback and complain to eBay if it was an illegal copy.

Any more help with the 'meat' of my post would also be helpful, everyone...

I would recommend version 2.0 to just about anyone, as it is the future direction of the product and includes a whole new set of solutions. You may however find that your PC is a little underpowered to get the best out of 2.0 and decide to get 1.5 and upgrade when you can afford to beef up your PC a little.

I still have some performance limitations and I am running a 3 GHz P4 (overclocked to 3.3 GHZ) with 1.5 GB of memory. Basically it will eat all the power you can throw at it. On the other hand if your demands for effects are not too huge, you may find it works perfectly.

I think the main point is that the 1.5 to 2.0 upgrade is a whole change of approach for AA, the interface is different, the engine is different and you have to learn a slightly differen way of doing things.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi, MarkT,

Drammen? Lovely little town! I worked there in the 80s when I was a full-time piano entertainer. Cool

I think my PC's pretty powerful (see my Signature), but you've solved the problem for me: I'll stay with 1.5. Why? Interface.

You say that "the 1.5 to 2.0 upgrade is a whole change of approach for AA, the interface is different, the engine is different and you have to learn a slightly different way of doing things". No thanks. I went through all that when Cubase upped from the fabulous 5.x to the ghastly SX/SL/SE series, which I bought and sold. Yuk! It's Cubase VST 5.1 for me.

I'm not a full-time pro studio, so I think 1.5 will be enough for me anyway, particularly as I'm using the Tryout version and getting used to & enjoying it...

Thanks very much for your help,

John. Smiley

Why not do the 2.0 tryout as well and compare side-by-side?  They should co-exist perfectly and, with a little advance reading here, you can get a heads-up on some of the main differences and issues.

HI, MC,

That's a good idea, and I had thought of it, but I wasn't sure if they would "co-exist perfectly". That's good to know.

I'd like to get used to 1.5 first while I've got the Tryout, but it's true that I could try them both. Why not? Thanks,

John.

I can't say I've heard of anyone installing two different tryout versions at the same time, but it would surprise me greatly if you ran into any issues since so many of us have multiple purchased Audition versions and use them at the same time.

Please let us know of your findings!  And read this forum, particularly the stickies, and the 2.0 FAQs at the Adobe forum.

OK, MC,

I've still got just over 3 weeks with my 1.5. I'm tending to think I'll just stick with it, but I'll certainly bear your advice in mind.

Thanks, and for the reading tips too - should be interesting... Smiley
