On the laptop, the first time I open it in an XP session, it takes about the same time as yours does - about 21-22 seconds. The second time I open it, it takes about 5 seconds.

Something happens during the first open that doesn't happen the second, and subsequent times, and also doesn't happen with AA1.5. I doubt very much whether 'going back to the roots' has anything at all to do with this - there's probably something very specific behind the behaviour, but nobody has said explicitly what this is - there have only been guesses.

I use a second copy on an absolute piece of junk laptop...Pentium 3 900 Mhz with only 256 megs of RAM, and Audition only takes 7 to 10 seconds to load.

Pretty good for a hunk of junk.

Something else must be going on with your computer...

If you can load Audition 2.0 in 7 to 10 seconds (on the first load after a reboot...see SteveG's details above) then you probably hold the world record!

Timings between 20 and 30 seconds are totally typical, even for users of very high spec machines.  This has been discussed at length many times, both here and in Adobe's own forum.

On the second open, its taking advantage of the fact that parts of it are still in the disk cache.
