When I bought this house, the whole of the (admittedly minimal) mains power wiring was bell wire!

Unknown to us Electrical Engineers (until now) is that price is a technical parameter having just as much effect on performance as impedance, distortion, noise etc. All these decades we've been missing out on manufacturing cables with increased price. And it's so easy to modify the manufacturing process to achieve this increase. Now that this breakthrough has been revealed the industry will receive the boost so sorely needed in these troubled economic times.

And no premium because this is antique bell wire? Seriously, it has gone through an enhanced burn-in proces at the same time it is probably old enough not to contain any man-made isotopes while the long aging has made sure that it has complete recrystallised at the same time all volatile substances were removed from the insulation. That price doesn't do it justice at all ! At least you got to tripple the price.

And no premium because this is antique bell wire?

Yes - it must have been a good fifty or sixty years old, maybe more - and some of it was literally 'burnt-in' (to the wall in one case!!).
