Okay I read that 2.0 will play midi files, so I tried it and yeppir,  it certainly does !!!!!!!! Cheesy

hehehehe,

I recorded a midi file in Sonar, saved it to my desktop, then imported it into 2.0 and there it was in my files window, dragged it into the MT and there were my midi notes....closed Sonar, set the midi device and channel, and hit play and poof,  it started playing my JP-8000....awesome !!!!!!! Cheesy

Audition recognized my 1010LT, 2496 card, and my Opcode Studio 64XTC interface for midi outputs........we're on the right track guys !!!!!!!! Cheesy

SWEEEEEET !!!!

Note: 1.5 will also play midi files but there's much better support in 2.0.

I'm not much into midi but I'm aware that 2.0 can have multiple midi tracks - what else does it do better?

Recognizing various midi outputs, volume control, mute and solo, shows up nicely in the mixer, looks great in MT, ANNNNNDDDD you can duplicate your clip, split your clip, change color,  move it around similar to an audio clip......even though you can't edit notes, these clip editing features can be very useful in song arraingment.

I wasn't able to access my Kompakt Player's sounds, but was able to access my outboard sound modules very easily without any major routing problems...it's very easy to work with, and when the tracks are laid out in MT , sections can be added or deleted as desired....

I certainly like what I see. Cheesy

I'm seriously not trying to rain on your parade, but so will CEP 2.1 import and play Midi files.  You can specify Midi In and Midi Out.  Midi In is mainly for SMPTE synch - but on my machine, I can direct Midi Out to the Midi Out on my sound card (for sending Midi to an external keyboard or sound module), to my soundcard synth, to the Windows DLS sound set, to the Roland Virtual Sound Canvass I have installed on my HD, and to any of the several virtual Midi cables I have installed.  Volume, solo, and mute are there also.  I'm not certain about the duplicting or moving around part for the Midi clip.  I never needed to do any of those so don't know whether CEP 2.1 can do that.  But I can certainly change the color of the clip.  I can also import Midi files onto more than one track in MV - but I don't know if that is what Peter meant by saying that 2.0 can have multiple Midi tracks.  I, like Peter, am left wondering what that "much better support" for Midi in 2.0 actually is.

Told you I was weak on midi....

Well, never mind what's new - so long as you don't need to record or edit midi, it's surprising what Audition does given that its midi support is usually described as "limited".

As noted previously, there's one thing that it doesn't do - and that's to return a MIDI stream to a rewire application. Which means that it's not rewire 2 compatible. The daft thing is that this might not have been too difficult to implement - it's only a routing option, effectively.

You're not raining on my parade. As I said, it can locate and play thru my old Opcode Midi Interface to my various outboard sound modules. Routing is much better. Very easy,  Just this fact alone makes it very usable for me. Cheesy  With the new colors, which have a darker look to them , the layout in the MT screen look great, and with the new mixer, the midi tracks look great, this is very important, to have a great looking work area. It looks much better than 1.5.

For those of you not familiar with midi, but would like to test it out, you can find a very nice piano midi file at this website. It's meant for doing piano shootouts of various piano sample programs or sound modules...It's a very nice midi file for doing that. ( Goto the "Digital Piano Shootout" tab, find the link, then do the "save as") once downloaded, you can then insert it into 2.0.

I WAS on the verge of selling off some of my outboard midi sound modules, but after listening to the JV-1080 again....I think I'll keep them.... Cheesy

As you've said in so many words elsewhere on other occasions - gotta have something to charge them for on the next upgrade.  Doesn't make business sense to give them everything at once. wink  evil

There may be a lot of truth to that, but from what I've seen so far with how Audition handles midi files, I'm REALLY looking forward to a full blown midi program.... Cheesy

The layout just looks sooo good !!

and yes you can edit out or paste in one note at a time, if you want.

Hopefully that doesn't apply to good ASIO support.

A patch would be ideal, but wouldn't follow tradition  rolleyes

So far as I know, that is new.  Midi step-editing.  Interesting.  But I'm not in the camp that wants a full-blown Midi editor added to AA.

I don't think it's new, just my skill level is getting better. Just zoom in on a bad note, highlight it and cut.

To add a note, copy and paste from somewhere else.

Not real easy, not real hard, but doable.

And yes, I think a full blown midi program should be optional, but in the meantime, Sonar is working out fine for me, as it has tons of features for midi recording and editing already, you can even print out music scores.

I just tried playing the above midi file thru the JV-1080 and recorded the audio at the same time, then I exported it into the edit view, adjusted volume, ect... worked like a charm. I got a perfect audio recording, no pops, clicks, buzzes, a nice strong signal......I'm happy. Cheesy
