Losing Focus
I've just run into another - and for me, extremely annoying - change in the way things work in AA2.
Normally, while doing a transfer from the analogue source, I drop markers on the fly where I hear problems. That saves me having to run the track a second time to find those problematical areas - it gets me right in the ballpark. Now, if you hit F8 to drop a marker, it loses focus on the main screen and you can't drop any subsequent markers. It's the same if you are playing back.
I was quite excited when I read about AA2 - it had all the things, and more, that I wanted - ASIO, hardware control with proper automation, etc., etc. - but I'm coming to the conclusion that Adobe are going to lose me as a customer.
Over the years, I have established a whole methodology for my work, based on the functions of CEP/AA, but I keep finding little things which no longer work the way they did. I don't see why Adobe are putting me in a position where I'm constantly having to find work-arounds for things which have always worked well for me in the past.
Considering how much the upgrade is going to cost me here, I'm very inclined to call it a day with this application. I will certainly wait for the first patch before committing myself.
Maybe the multitrack will rescue it but, for the way I work, AA2 is nowhere near as functional as 1.5. In fact, in many ways, I prefer CEP1.2a.
How sad........

Not here it doesn't, in EV, MT, record or playback - I can see no difference in how that works from earlier versions. Anyone else seeing that behaviour?

Well, I can tell you quite categorically, because I've just tried it, that this is
not
the case here! What on earth are you doing to lose the screen focus?
Oh, and it's fully functional in MV as well - both in play and record modes. I would have noticed
ages
ago if this didn't work, because this is what I do when I'm recording too.

Not me. It's a facility I use a lot too...and it still works just as it always has for me, both on my main desktop and my under-resourced laptop.

Not only that, but if I have the phase analysis window that's docked behind the main EV window open, I can
still
drop markers into EV in real time, even though I've got active focus in another window.
Altering the focus around the screen doesn't alter this - neither does dragging the waveform screen out onto the desktop - it just keeps on working, and you can drop cues with F8 whenever you like without it disturbing a thing.

OK - I've twigged it. It's still a bug, but a slightly more subtle one than I thought.
To set the scene, I had the Phase and Freqency Analysis windows open, also the Markers window. This is (now was) my default workspace for the job. Your comment about having the phase analysis window open and in focus, with F8 working, made me have a closer look.
What happens is - with focus on the main window, you can drop as many markers as you need. If you put focus on (say) the phase analysis window, you can drop one marker - at which point focus then switches to the Marker window and you can't drop any more. Same thing with the Frequency analysis. If you have focus on it, you can only drop one marker and then focus switches to the marker window and all bets are off.
The answer was to turn of the Marker window - it all works as expected then.

Well, I'm glad you've sussed it out.
But...
If I dock the Markers window with the main edit window, and the Phase Analysis window, it still works fine - each hit of F8 adds an entry in the list, which ever window is open. Can you try this yourself, and see what happens?

I've generated 25 seconds of silence, with the phase analyser and marker list docked to the right hand side of the main window.
If I change the focus to either the phase OR marker list by clicking on the appropriate tab, then I can add as many markers as I want by hitting F8 while playing back.
If I change the focus by clicking in the middle of the phase or marker window then it seems that I cannot add any markers by hitting F8. As long as the focus is on that window (phase or marker; by clicking in the middle of it) then I can not add markers.
Doesn't seem to be a problem to me.

There do seem to be circumstances where F8 doesn't work, but the appropriate button on my control surface
always
seems to work. Graeme, are you able to try this, would it fit your workflow?

There's no real reason for me to have the Markers window open (it's on the second monitor, but I get the same result if I dock it onto the main screen) so I've closed it for the moment.
I haven't had the nerve to hookup my Yamaha controller yet
, I'v just got the audio running through it at the moment, as a stand-alone mixer, mainly to try out the ASIO drivers. Real control? - that's something for tomorrow.
