This is a thread for mentioning soundcards that, despite having potential multichannel capabilities, only work in stereo because their manufacturers didn't see fit to provide standard Windows multi-channel drivers, but just ASIO ones.

Dishonourable mention No 1 (but I was aware of this at the time I bought it) is the EMu 1820M, and in fact all of that series of cards. EMu promised multichannel drivers, but they haven't materialised.

Though it should be noted that the UA-5 is designed as a Stereo device and does not claim to be able to handle any more than 2 channels.  So it is working to its full potential, as a stereo soundcard, with Audition.

Thanks.

Or, other cards that are designed as Stereo-only and function well as such with Audition.

Perhaps the category needs a little bit of adjustment.

Perhaps the category needs a little bit of adjustment.

It might, but there doesn't appear to be a title that says all of what's required that will actually fit in the title bar, with its rather restricted number of characters, and that's why it is the way it is. So instead, there's an explanation in the first post. Clearly, we don't need a list of every soundcard going, because if they function with Windows at all, they are almost bound to  work with Audition, since it uses Windows APIs for record and playback.

Perhaps the subject line should be something like "Sound cards that handle TWO or more channels.
