I go away for a few days & while I'm gone a vocal removal thread has resurfaced. So here's a ditty (no, not an ode) which might help. (If it doesn't hinder.)

The Vocal Removalist

I need to take out vocals
So I thought I'd buy Cool Edit,
I know that it will do the job
'cause somewhere once I read it,
Or maybe it was my old friend
Who told me it was so,
He told me that what it could do
   Would set my heart aglow.

Well it wouldn't make a cuppa,
   Or even pour a beer,
But it could do all sorts of things
   Most pleasing to my ear.
It has a clever preset
   That makes my music louder,
It even has a preset
   That will sprinkle magic powder.

It has another preset
   To take away the noise
That plagues my vinyl records -
I tell you girls and boys
That should you doubt,
There isn't any need to be sarcastic,
This piece of marv'llous software
   Is really quite fantastic.

But of all the things that Cool can do
The one that is the best,
The world's been waiting many a year,
I tell you it's no jest,
It really is the best of all -
   It's called "Vocal Removal",
It takes the vocals from a song -
   I hear your loud approval.

So many songs I hear these days
   Have such an awful lyric.
Did they really mean to say that rot,
   Or are they just satyric?
But C.E. makes it go away -
   I see this knowledge spread
Like a bushfire fanned across the land....
   As pigs fly overhead.

Cheers,
Alan

I think the tune to "Gilligan's Island" would work here.

Just remove the vocals from the theme song and you can record these lyrics over the tune!

Well, Lorisha, some methods of vocal removal have been discussed here in the past, but most of them involved some form of violent (or at least, slightly malevolent) action...
Heh-heh-heh...
;)

examples:
turn off the microphone in the isolation booth...
dub the guitar over the vocal track...
kick the vocalist out of the studio altogether...
etc., etc... I think you get the point!

Definitively: YES! I have had great success with a Marcel Marceau song (or, perhaps it was a Buster Keaton one? My memory fails sometimes...) Smile

Of course we can, dear. Your place or mine? (heh heh!)

But 5 verses on vocal removal? I agree with Graeme, although it's a splendid effort. A while back, I reduced this subject to a haiku, but it seemed almost too trivial to publish (unlike Alan's poem) so I didn't bother. But under the circumstances...

    Vocal Removal?
So there's a preset for it
    But it doesn't work...[/list:c03b1a6f3d]

Alan's ditty is definitelya more enjoyable read!

    Steve
