My goal: Take a 65 second voice track... remove the breaths... and then time compress it down to an even 60 seconds.

As an example: If I chop all the breaths out of a 65 second voice track, I'm left with a bunch of separate blocks on my track in the multitrack window. How do I time compress these blocks into one shorter (presumably 60 second) wave block?

I'm at a bit of a loss to understand quite how you got to this point. How about mixing down these blocks? This would give you one file to work on.

Next time, I think I'd edit out the breaths in Edit View - this would maintain the single file structure.

thanks for the response, Graeme...

I took a 45 minute feed from our sports reporter this afternoon (recorded as one BIG wave file), and so I was working with just over a minute of that feed.

I've always used Pro Tools (Mac version) before this week, and so I'm used to being able to do all my FX work within the Mix Window.

But with Cool Edit Pro, it looks like I'm going to have to get used to a few extra steps in each process.

I'm not familiar enough to comment on the differences between ProTools and CEP, but I don't see why it should be necessary to use CEP's multitrack function to carry out a simple cutting job such as this one.

Next time do all the edit work in Edit View. It's simpler that way. Also next time try DELETE SILENCE. You'll have to play with the levels a little bit, but once you get the hang of it it'll save you many minutes to ge to the same result.

hello all... and thanks for your continued feedback!

If I chop my 45 minute wave down to the one minute section I'm intending to work with, and I do all this in edit view, why does the "Save As" function REMOVE the original 45 minute file from my menu of sound files next to my multitrack session?

Is there a preference I can change? Or do I need to continually re-import my 45 minute wave back into the session?
