I know Doc loves it when I start topics that have nothing to do with Cool Edit... ;-)

I was watching The ScreenSavers on TechTV tonight and they always have a "question of the day". I thought today's was a bit interesting so I figured I might share.
There's a new word spreading around called "fleshmet". That means you've actually met a person in the flesh (shook hands, hugged, punched, whatever). The question was, "Do you think it's possible to make friends with someone who you havn't fleshmet?" In other words, could you make an actual friend with a person you've only talked to on the phone, or via e-mail, or on a forum such as this?

I met my wife when I was recording a concert - spoke for about 5 mins, but managed to get her phone number ("let me send you a copy of tonight's performance") - thereafter all was long phone calls UK > Oz > UK; after 9 months, went to Oz for a week and got engaged on day 2. Not sure if this is any more relevant to your thread than your thread is to this forum.....

I guess, in a way, that works. But you two actually "fleshmet" before hand. That's a pretty cool story though, definately one for the grandkids.

Wow. You make friends very easy.
When I'm talking to somebody about a conversation I had on this forum, I don't say "I was talking to my friend blah blah blah", I say something more like "I was talking to someone yada yada yada". No offense to anyone here, I certainly could see myself being friends with people here, but in all honesty, I just consider you all some pretty cool people to talk to. To me there's a slight difference. Lorisha, no doubt you have a lot more friends than me. ;-)

As things may have it, I was watching that episode yesterday as well. I can say that I do have ONE person that I met in a chatroom back in '94 that I would consider a friend. We've gon from talking online to talking on the phone. We speak to each other at least 3 times a week (that's on a bad week). We've never met, but nonetheless, I consider her a true friends, even more of a friend than some people if Fleshmet and known for years....maybe I should go "Fleshmeet" her. Who knows. Just my $0.02

That's because she's the good looking one! Smile (And outgoing, positive, optimistic, happy, attractive personality - all of which doubtless apply to you too, Post78, I'm sure, but I've seen Lorisha's site and I haven't seen yours!)

I joined a songwriting group a few years back and we chatted regularly on a forum. They organize summits, usually twice a year where people who are interested fly to a host city, rent a rehearsal room for a day, then a studio for a day and everybody, usually 12 people record one song each, with people contributing their talents to some of the songs other than their own. It was quite a shock meeting people I had chatted with for months, some years, before I met them in person at a summit. It took about a half day for my preconceptions of the person to adjust to reality. The summits are quite amazing events, almost spiritual in nature.

I wonder what the effect on the forum would be if we were required to post pictures of ourselves? Would we respond best to the good looking / pleasant looking ones of either sex?

It's a joke like "knock knock" or something. I just don't know the answer, so I was asking.
I'll find you a real joke by Monday or Tuesday, but I'm taking off for the weekend.

Ok, just for you then...Wink I was just enjoying this thread, as I recently heard about this term, 'Fleshmet'. At first, I thought the person had said something like Fresh Meat, to which I responded, "Well, that's a little juvenile, isn't it?"

Freudian slip, perhaps?

HAHA! Perhaps indeed... ;-)

Alright Lorisha, I'm back. Here's one that I found on another forum that I often visit:

A lawyer and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY.The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500!." Figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the blonde's turn. She asks the lawyer: "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references. He taps into the Airphone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library of Congress. Frustrated, he sends E-mails to all his coworkers and friends he knows. All to no avail. After over an hour, he wakes the blonde and hands her $500. The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep. The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what IS the answer!?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5, and goes back to sleep.

;)

All right, I can't resist....

A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the
keys to a new Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan.

The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blonde for using a $250,000 Rolls as collateral against a $5,000 loan.

An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"

The blonde replied, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"
