I'm looking for a good controller to use with CEP. Nothing to off the wall, but something that will let me edit, with simple cut and insert controls(edit in/out buttons). Most controllers I see have way too much, for what I'm doing. I use CEP to produce and edit radio spots. I'm trying to put together a nice home studio and really want to use a controller. Any suggestions?

Yes, I looked at Red Rover, but it is too basic. There are no controls for edit in or edit out or cut... I don't know if anyone is familiar with the Orban DSE 2000, an older analog unit, but I am looking for something similar to that controller. It had an edit in button, edit out button, cut, insert, loop, and a few others. I know CEP will do al these things, but is there a controller out there with these option on it that will work w/ CEP ?

Hi frogo,
I sometime use a Videonics Command Post USB device, though I have to say that using customised keyboard short cuts does most of what one really needs. I've mentioned it before here, a search would reveal more details rather than repost it, but I'll tell you more if you are interested.

Hi Zita,
OK, more detail on the CommandPost (which was sold off very cheaply here a few months back, maybe it's no longer available?) - anyway, it has 15 buttons which via the software supplied can be mapped to whatever keys or strings of keys you want. It also has a lever which can be programmed to send keys or strings as it moves, and a jog/shuttle wheel which is also programmable. Lastly there is a little mouse joystick which is pretty useless for anything other than sending the pointer wildly from one side of the screen to the other. So you can imagine that by combining its programmability with Cool Edit's keyboard shortcuts, you can do a lot. But for all that, I still use the keyboard more often in 'real' work situations.
See http://www.focusinfo.com/products/commandpost/commandpost.htm for more.

Another USB controller similar to the CommandPost mentioned by Ozpeter is the ShuttlePro. It doesn't list CEP as one of the software packages it's pre-configured to work with right out of the box, but it's pretty customizeable, so it might be worth a look...
