OK, there probably is a better place for this question, if I just knew where to go, but I believe there are a few users that hang out here. I did look at everything I could find on my computer and on the official site, but I could not find a clue. OK, it is probably really really dumb, and Pris was right.

Nothing gets out when I attempt to play a file with Winamp (Winamp: so I can just play music I have on the hard drive, without opening and starting each file separately). Winamp itself seems happy, it goes about doing its thing, progressing through the song, but nothing reaches the outside world.

Looking at my soundcard's control panel, I see the level meters for S/PDIF reacting, so that is probably where Winamp's output is directed. There does not appear to be any option in the soundcard's patch bay to route that output to the analogue output. I cannot find anywhere in Winamp to select the output device. I can't find anything in Windows multimedia setup that seems to be pointed at the S/PDIF output.

Who knows how to set this right?

Hello Andy...Assuming that your 'preferred device' for Sound Playback is set to the analog outs of your soundcard (audiophile, no?) then that is rather bizarre.

Having said that, you can route the SPDIF to the Monitor Mixer in the Delta Panel simply by checking it in the Patchbay/Router tab. That way, you'll at least be able to hear what would be playing out of the SPDIF, though that really does seem strange. I'd re-verify your settings in the Multimedia/Sound Control Panel. I'm sure there are plenty of other WinAmp users that will probably chime in, so hang in there.

I think I see. The patchbay/router allows the S/PDIF in, but not the out, to be directed to the analogue out. However, if I select Monitor Mixer to go to the analogue out, anything that shows up on the Monitor Mixer screen (which does include S/PDIF out) will come out the jacks?

I will have to try that, as a work around. It does not seem reasonable, however, that one should have no control over where Winamp sends it output.

Andy, I'm not sure that I understand your problem but if I do open WinAmp and click on the upper left corner. Then Options-Preferences-Output-then highlite the WinAmp output plugin (OUT_WAV.Dll), then click on Configure. In the Devices pull down menu find your output soundcard, i.e WavOut 1/2 Delta-AP for the AudioPhile 2496 and Close. That should configure WinAmp to play directly to the soundcard.

Thanks. It seemed like there must be some way to get to devices. Every other audio program I played with had a way.
