I have a motu 896 and just the downloaded version of CEP2 (to try before I buy) but I can't get it to see more than just the the device. It won't let me assign track 1 to be motu 1-2 track 2 to be motu 3-4 etc so I can only record 2 tracks at a time I tried my motu at a friends house who has CEP1.2 and it worked great so I know the unit works. does anyone else have this problem? any help would be great
My specs 2 computers I use the motu on both
Desktop
P4 1.7GHz
256 PC800 ram
40 Gig hd
Firewire
Win XP Pro
blah blah
Laptop
P3 1.0GHz
256 Ram
40 Gig Hd
Firewire
Win XP pro
and all the rest of the stuff

Hello. It sounds as if you've got CEP2 defaulting at 'mono' recording input instead of stereo. This can be adjusted under Options>Settings>Multitrack>Default Record>Stereo.
In multitrack, go to Options>Device Order>Recording Devices. Here's where you can add all of the MOTU's input devices, one after the other. Click OK.
Now, in MT, click on REC1 in track 1. This will select the first input device. From the list, choose MOTU 1/2, and be sure that you select STEREO (not left channel or right channel). This will record both inputs (1&2) into a single, stereo track in track 1. Repeat the procedure for each track with the appropriate input pair (ie, 3/4, 5/6, etc)

Ok I set the track record to stereo and went to the device order and it will only come up with MOTU analog, MOTU AES/EBU, ESS maestro (built in soundcard) and wave mapper it wont see channels 3-4 5-6 7-8 I am kind of confused because it worked so easily in 1.2
on 1.2 it says MOTU 1-2 MOTU 3-4 etc... I hope that we can get this fixed because I really do not want to learn a differant software CEP is the best IMHO.

Hmmm...okay, well this sounds like a driver issue. I'd do a search in the hardware and soundard forums for MOTU devices, things like the 828 and 2408...I'm not currently using one, but I know there were problems with driver support and WinXP (which could be what you're experiencing). It's quite possible that those early problems have been resolved, but I'm not certain.
You might also consider emailing . They should be able to provide you with some more insight...
Let us know.

Zadok,
A buddy of mine lent me his MOTU 828, I tried setting it up on my laptop in Cool Edit and it was a real pain. In its own control panel you have to tell it to use the Legacy MME drivers, and then in Cool Edit you have to uncheck the 'try as WDM' in the Device Properties...it sort of worked after that, except I couldn't monitor any input signal, even though I told the card's software to monitor from all sources. I didn't like the card at all and decided not to get it.

I use a motu 24I. I dont know if there are any similaraties or not. But my Motu software installed a program called PCI-324 console. I bring that up and can assign all that stuff.

I use the MOTU 2408 and the 24i. I agree that it's easy to configure with the console but if you're new to this sort of thing it might be confusing. I don't think that unit uses the same software console. I'll visit their web-site and see if I can offer anything useful.
