I found with using a plugin for Winamp that there are a bunch of Directx filter that are standard.
Is there any way to access these filters with CoolEdit pro(or 2000)

I have win2000, DX8.1b and Soundblaster 5.1(updateing drivers to 2000 soon)

thnx

Hi crazy_came,

DirectX support is built into CEP and is a free upgrade to CE2000.

In CEP2 you may need to click on 'Effects>Refresh Effects List' to pick up DX effects already installed on your computer.

ozpeter,
i understand about using loaded filter (when they work Smile ).
The filters I want to use are built into Direct X.
Have you heard about these?
I can only use these with DX plugin for Winamp that allows you to use DX filters to listen to music. I have fresh install with no filters loaded, and winamp shows 9 DX filters I can use.
It would be cool to use these for processing, as they are very tight and functional filters.
(they are chorus, reverb, compression, flanger, distortion, echo, gargle, 3dreverb, paraeq)

thnx for quick reply

I'm not much into Winamp so I'm not familiar with these DX plugins, or whether they can be used in Cool Edit. If there is someone else who knows, please jump in! Otherwise I'll see what I can find out myself.

Meanwhile, see this link for loads of free plug-ins; for instance the "Blue" plugins are worth a try especially at the price!

They aren't dx plugins.
They are actually part of Direct X
And the plugin I use for winamp accesses these filters.
They are really cool filters, free Smile (because there part of DX)
and stable. To use them for processing would be advantage in CE

At the moment I can play wav in winamp and discwrite with filters,
but this is a pain in the butt (exspecially for guitar work)

Hope this explains a bit better,
and it's a shame we don't have better access to all features of our OS's

Maybe if this came to light someone may write a plugin for CE that can use these filters.
But theres no $$$$ in it..........

I have no use for Winamp but, as I understand it, these filters - although part of DX - are not what we would consider to be 'plug-ins'. Therefore they would not be accessible to CE (or any other DX host).

That said, I'd be extremely surprised if you couldn't find proper DX plug-ins with the same or better functionality - and I'd even lay money you could find freeware ones. On top of this, the effects which are supplied with CEP are as good as many you would have to pay for and cover most of the areas you mention, so why bother looking in the first place?

thnx graeme and ozpeter,
Your right though. CE does better than good job for on the fly stuff.
Main reason though is that these filters are free and good and on everybodys system.
But harder to get than download DX plugs.. lol

cheers
