I was just about to order the latest Turtle Beach sound card when I noticed the requirements stating that it needed Windows 98 or above. I'm running Win95B
on a 366Mhz AMD K2 chip (clocked down, not up) with 256 Meg of memory.
It's a Soyo 5EAS motherboard.
I've seen people on this list mention running the Santa Cruz on 95/98, but
I'm hesitant to take a chance buying a board that I can't use.
I started with a SB-16. Then I tried the Aureal Vortex SQ-2500, but it has an
IRQ conflict I can't get rid of so it won't record.
I'd like to do some basic audio editing with a little midi work. The Santa Cruz board
has both, but if it doesn't run on 95 I'll have to consider another board.

It may be better to upgrade to win 98 instead of trying to find a new card that will work under 95... drivers aren't being written for 95 anymore. If for some reason you want to stick with 95, you could probably find an older discontinued card that was around back then.

It's going to get harder and harder to find hardware or software compatible with Windows 95 since Microsoft has stopped supporting it.

Sad but true...an excellent point to make, Terry.

I appreciate your comments, but it seems that - once again, I have become roadkill on the Great Technological Highway. It seems that my hard work scraping together a system within my budget: from sale items, surplus and yes, even dumpster diving - has come to naught. I'm one operation system short.
I remember going from DOS to Win3.1, then to Win95, and it seemed like that it was never enough. I always needed more RAM, more speed - not to do the work, but to accommodate the operation system. True, technology advances and new hardware and software can make things better but that's little consolation when you're picking yourself off the pavement.
And what if I did upgrade to Win98? There's two more tractor-trailers coming down the road. Windows 2000 and XP. If Win95 is history, then Win98 will soon join it... and me... in the junkyard.
And no, I will not 'borrow' a Win98 disk from a friend to install on my computer.
Sigh... I've exceeded my budget already and it seems I'm out of options. It looks like it's SoundBlaster Hell for me and my poor system. Well, the heck with it. I'll ride that SoundBlaster until it _smokes_.

Maybe all hope is not lost. Doth spake Turtle Beach:
>Thank you for contacting Turtle Beach Tech Support.
>The Windows 98 drivers should also work in Windows 95. We apologize but
>Windows 95 is no longer supported by VTB.
>
>Regards,
>Turtle Beach Tech Support
So I probably could run a TB card. I think I'll take the chance...
