Just wanted to share that I installed it in CE2K and I'm a happy camper. Now I can do BBE processing in the digital realm versus the analog one. My files that are BBE enhanced sound incredible. You either love it or hate it; me, I love it.

Hey, Turbo...help me out on this one. I went to the BBE site...and all I saw was HARDWARE. Where in the world is the plug-in? (I know I need new glasses cause everytime I see that darn post for 'noisebleeding' I think it says NOSE bleeding...but still...I looked, and couldn't find it!)
Thanks.

I don't think Freud could say anything cause he's way dead.
But I wouldn't hate ya in any case -
I barely even know ya!
lol.
And anyway - for the time being I'm in (maybe the calm before the storm) heaven using that doggone "Enhancer 017" DSP in conjunction with Winamp. To my ear it is just absolutely amazing what it does. I was listening to some songs today and my exact reaction was: "This is exactly how I always wanted BBE to sound on every song, not just on a few". The fact that Enhancer 017 is so configurable allows me to dial in the treble, bass, and ambience on each song. So if I listen and there's too much of one or not enough of another, I just go back and try again. That good, solid punch is audible in all the songs now, and if it gets too 'sizzly' with the highs, I just tone em down a bit and it's just incredible. I haven't found any other plug-in to do what this does, and it's not even a plug-in. It's 'just' a freeware dsp for Winamp. I think part of why it can achieve what it does is - like a de-noise plug in - it lets you remove the source material almost completely so you can hear only the effect(s) that you're dialing in, so to speak, and then you can ease the source material back in until you hear just the right balance you're looking for. That's helped me remove excess 'sizzle' that just hurts your ears, but not dull everything down to bland, flat, lifeless tunes. So at least for the time being I feel like I've found exactly what I was looking for and really getting the results that I thought I'd get from BBE, and then some. Thanks for your feedback.
The only drawback, if it really is a drawback, is what Beetle pointed out - that it only works in 16-bit mode, not 24. But considering how solid the final results are, I can't honestly say I could ever tell the difference. Or would stop using it because it wasn't working in 24 bit mode.

i agree. i got that winamp enhancer about 6 months ago, and haven't found anything as good yet. even ozone has faild to give me what that stupid little freebee has !!
heres what i'd like to be able to do if anyone here has an idea how..........i'd like to be able to play a file and mix in the amount of the enhanced sound with the original unaltered sound. any idea how i could do that? the enhanced sound is often so radically different that i would like to be able to just add in a bit of the enhanced effect to the original......dale

Hey, Dale.
I don't know if this helps or not, because I assume you've already tried it and it didn't work the way you wanted it to. But if I'm not mistaken, the 'Volume' lever in "Enhancer 017" should, in fact, do exactly what you are asking. That volume slider increases or decreases the amount of 'enhanced' sound added to the 'original source' sound; that's basically all it does. If you want to hear JUST the enhanced sound that you'd be adding, slide the 'dry signal' slider all the way to the left (it doesn't go to zero, but it does go to '1'.) If you want, do the same with the 'Volume' slider at the top. It, I believe, does go to zero. Set the bass, treble, and ambience however you want. Then begin to slide the volume slider to the right. The sound you're hearing at that point IS the degree of enhanced sound you're adding. You can then either just slide the 'dry signal' back to '10'; or less, if that helps achieve the final overall sound you want. On songs that were so totally cooked and raspy, I've sometimes set the 'dry signal' to something less than 10, 'filling in' so to speak, with the enhanced 'overlay' sound. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. But I have definitely been able to remove some harshness from some songs and replace it with a good punch, some degree of highs and 'air'/ambience, without the song becoming muddy or brittle, to the degree that I clearly prefer the final, doctored version to the original. Obviously, I'd prefer to just rip and burn, but in that case, we wouldn't all be here having so much fun, would we?!
Take care, and I'm glad to hear that someone else is having some success with that 'stupid little freebie'!! (I wrote the author about how much I was enjoying it. He seemed to get a kick out of that. I also asked if he'd consider writing a DirectX version, so the processing could take place inside a 24 bit environment. He seemed open to that idea. You might want to ask him as well; maybe if more folks did, he really would make a version for DirectX. One last question. When you said you preferred Enhancer 017 to Ozone, were you talking about Ozone the real DirectX plugin, or Ozone for Winamp? Because they are significantly different, as I found out after writing to Izotope to ask about the differences.

Does anyone know if there is a demo of the BBE plugin? I went tot he site and it just gives you the option of buying it or not.

You can get an online demo at BBESOUND.com.
If you like it, you can purchase it from Cakewalk.com.
Hope that helps.
