Can anyone recommend a good battery powered stereo condenser mic?

I have a Sony ECM-MS959 which is pretty good - the present incarnation of this is the ECM-MS957 which retails in the States for about $220. What do you actually want to use it for?

Vocals and acoustic guitar. The guitar makes noises in several different places -especially the way I play it - hence the desire for stereo.

Personally, I'd have gone for two mono cardioid mics for the guitar - tends to give you a lot more flexibility with the sound. And a separate vocal mic. Run the lot into a small mixer, and have some control of the balance. It's very difficult to get a good stereo recording of a guitar + vocals with one stereo mic. How are you recording at present?

I take your point. The two mic option may well be a better idea. I wouldn't try and get guitar and vocal at the same time through one mic. Guitar first, then vocals.

If you are recording the vocals separately, then I'd definitely go for 2 mics. I tend to use my stereo mic for FX location recording and the odd interview. As I said earlier, the Sony's not a bad mic at all, but the reason that you don't see many good stereo mics is that there are very few reasons for using one, other than handling convenience. You find cheap ones to go on video cameras but they are dire, and should be avoided at any cost.
