Hi,
I need help... I am very illiterate when it comes to this program and have gone through a bunch of tutorials to no avail...
All I would like to do is record myself singing to my back up tracks and save them as wav's or mp3's...
I want to create make-shift demo's if possible and I got this program believing I could do that...
Can someone help me out with figuring out how to do that? I have the vocal-less back up tracks and would loev to know how to do it!
Any help would be appreciated, just keep in mind that you are dealing with someone who knows nothing about this....but im hoping someone can provide step by step instruction to get what I need done...
Thanks soooo much...

Ok.... step one, exactly what version of the program do you have? And can you explain how far you've got already, so we can tell where you are finding the biggest problem?

OK, I am using version Cool Edit 2000 1.1 build 2418
I havent gotten anywhere with it really... I dragged in a .wav back up track and played it...clicked record at the top and then was able to sing with it but thats it... I dont even know if that is right so we should assume I know nothing...So any help would be great!
Thanks a bunch!

Hmmm.
Unless you've also purchased the Studio Plug-in for CE2000, you are limited to working with just one stereo (or mono) track at any one time. You need a multitrack environment to do what you're attempting - i.e., your backing track file would get inserted on one track for playback, and you would arm another track for simultaneously recording your voice.
;)
Best... -Jon

Jonrose has probably gone straight to the heart of the problem.... You need a multitrack facility.
I think you need to do a fair bit of general self-training before going much further. On this site there are several tutorials in the 'help' section which may illustrate perhaps what jonrose was explaining. Work your way through the help files in the software and try to get a general idea of what it's all about there. I'm not sure if you can download a trial of the 'Studio' multitrack add-on for Cool Edit 2000, but if it's a free trial, have a go. And I think I'm right in saying that when the Adobe version of Cool Edit ('Audition') is launched soon, you can upgrade your fairly-simple CE2000 to the all-singing-all-dancing Audition for $99 - which should do everything you could possibly want, but there's a lot in it which might confuse a newbie, I'm afraid. Also, rummage around in your local library or bookshop and see what reading is available there for someone starting out in this field.
That's some general advice - if you need something more specific in the light of these replies, come back and let us know.

Hi...
I really appreciate your help with my issue but I have figured it out somewhat...
First of all, I am now using cool edit 2.0 pro.... not 2000...
I start off by recording my singing in Acoustica Mp3 Audio Mixer, which is pretty limited from what I have seen but what is nice about it is, after I record my vocals onto a backing track, when I save it to a .wav, it automatically opens cool edit pro 2.0 and from there I have learned how to edit it, add all kinds of effects and what not...
I made one song (even though my voice wasnt up to it) just to test out my mixing abilities... if you want to hear it I can email it to you.....and you can hear it and let me know if there is anything I can/should change to make it sound better...
E-mail:
But I do find that my mic picks up good but when it records I get some distortion on playback when I hit any loud/high notes...
I dont know if thats because my sound card isnt strong wnough (soundblaster) or what....
Anyway, you guys have been very helpful...
Thanks
Stacy

And please, leave me feedback wither here or on the link above to let me know if there is something I am doing wrong in the mixing process with the way I did that song...
Im not good at using it yet but this was just a trial...
