hi all,
running w/xp home on p3 1000 with 512 ram. and sb live! x-gamer 5.1 card along with klipsch 5.1 speaks.
was going to get total recorder for this but i don't understand how it can record "digitally" from like wmp9-realplyer-QT 6.3, etc in software mode where it doesn't go thru sound card (?) didn't beleive it so tried it with nero6 wav editor whne i figured cep 2.1 would probably do a better job of it. was i wrong in assuming that?
anyhow recording streaming media (live stuff, etc) to wav at 44.1/16.
chooseing wav from windows mixer and getting settings so no clipping and its a bit cumbersome but i cut files at beginning and ends so they are at cd fromes when cut.
is there a better way to record streaming media?
would this total recorder pro do a better job and is it actually capturing sound before it hits sound card or is that bs?
lastly what are the drawbacks to using cep 2.1 for this?

There's really no major drawback regarding using CEP2.1 for this -- the software will be happy to oblige, and recording right into CD format is convenient if the streaming audio is not at the same sample rate.
However, TotalRecorder is a horse of a very different color. Their hype is legit. It basically is a sound card driver with no hardware attached, and inserts itself between your multimedia software and actual soundcard driver. It makes a copy of all the data passing through on the way to your Soundblaster, thereby making a digital copy of whatever you're listening to.
I've done this both ways. Recording with CEP2 will be as good as your sound card -- which in your case is so-so -- but much Internet audio is not that good and it may be a moot point to mess with TotalRecorder. Just remember that using CEP makes your sound card re-digitize the analog output of your Internet audio. If you have a really great soundcard, this is not a problem. Yours is not a favorite for recordists.
