I need some advice from anyone who is experienced using both CE2000 (or CEPro)and Finale (or probably a Sibelius user will know the answer.)
As you know, Finale produces its own .MUS files that can be played back through a MIDI device or the default sound card (Windows.)
The .MUS files can be saved as MIDI files by Finale. My question...can any of the Syntrillium products convert .MIDI to .wav files? I really need to know, and my scanty audio knowledge lags WAY behind my composition/Finale knowledge.
Thanks for any help.

In any of the products, if your soundcard supports the facility, you can set the windows mixer to play midi on the playback side, record midi on the record side, and then set Cool Edit recording then start the midi file playing. Cool Edit Pro 2.x makes this a bit slicker by enabling you to insert the midi file into a multitrack track, and record on another track while playing back the midi track you've inserted (again, assuming your soundcard allows such routing) thus recording to wave the midi sounds emanating from your soundcard.
If you want an alternative route, use midi-to-wave rendering software.
If in doubt, download a trial and see how it goes for you.

I use both Finale 2003 and CEP 2.1 extensively, and I often have the need to convert Finale MUS files to MIDI to WAV.
The easiest program is free! Download Winamp (www.winamp.com). I prefer the latest 2.x (rather than their 3x versions). This program will easily convert MIDI into WAV. It can only do it in real time (I'm unaware of any program that can do it quickly).
Setup for MIDI to WAV conversion is not difficult, but it's hardly intuitive. E-mail me if you have any setup questions.

As an experienced user of both Finale and CEP2, I just want to say that these guys are right on the money. Sure, you can import a MIDI file for playback in CEP2 (and if you select individual layers and insert multiple instances, you can even rebalance it), but that's all. Happy converting!
