Has anyone updated the AP 2496 driver to the latest release from the M-Audio site? File number Delta_WDM_514000029.exe. While it self extracts fine I'm not sure exactly how to install it. Just copy over the new files? The readme file includes changes but no install instructions.

Thanks.

Most driver updates of this nature will do everything neccessary themselves. Just run the exe file and see what happens - usually, they will uninstall the previous driver and then automatically install the new one. It has to be like this, because Windoze doesn't give you any other easy way to do it.

I would have thought so too but the only exe files in the package are DeltaUninstaller.exe and DeltTray.exe. There's a Delta.inf file with an install option when right clicking on it. I'm guessing that's the way to install it but I'm not sure.......

The instructions on the download page are:
This is a self extracting archive.
    ---
Please have a floppy disk ready to extract files to, you may name your own directory on your hard drive for these files. You will need to remember that directory for when the \\\"Add New Hardware Wizard\\\" asks for the location of the files.[/list:1aabf53f1e]
This implies that you have to use the uninstaller first, and then when the OS 'rediscovers' your hardware (on a reboot), you have to point the installer at the location of the files, especiallythe inf file - this is the one that controls the rest of the driver installation.

Now, Echo do this all automatically for you, but M-audio, for some reason, don't! They seem to think that everybody understands implicitly about driver installations, whereas quite a few people like to be 'reminded' every now and again...

    *edit*
It is possiblethat the uninstaller will do the entire job - I haven't tried it. But if this isthe case, it's a bitof an odd file name for it!

I downloaded and installed the update last month, and IIRC, I just ran the executable and allowed it to unpack the files (there are 10) into a temp folder. I then used the Hardware Manager, selected the sound card, and told it to update the drivers, then browsed to the temporary folder and let it upgrade. It's worked fine ever since.

Thanks. I got a reply from M-Audio on this, in case anyone else is interested. They say to extract the driver files, run the included uninstall program, reboot and install the new driver from the Found New Hardware popup. Seems kind of awkward but that's the way it works. (A readme file would have been nice.) They also mentioned that people seem to be having better success with the previous driver version. "At this time, the 5.10.00.27 seems to be getting a bit better performance than the 5.10.00.29." Go figure....
