Hi Guys, Im using cool pro, and recently downloaded the wind chimes software as found here..

http://www.syntrillium.com/download/download.html?15

PROBLEM. for some weird reason I cant get cool to record any of the generated sounds...anyone got a tip, fix, or bright idea to resolve this? also, should it integrate within Cool edit itself? If not, wouldnt it be good if it did?

cheers in advance!!

'Wind chimes' plays via midi, so in the Windows Mixer (recording side), you need to set 'Midi' as your record source at the desired level. For general advice on the Windows Mixer, see the "Setting the Windows Mixer" thread in the 'Tips & Tricks' forum here.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has 'Wind Chimes'!

Yeah...thought of that. But I will see that thread you mentioned, as strangely enuff, I dont see the midi volume in the windows mixer, somethings amiss.

For all those who DONT have windchimes, its abstarct music generation, well worth a listen too. I use it as background when Im doing tedious things and need light relief, still havent figured everything out yet, but its got promise!

If only it could integrate into CE effects menu....

Wind Chimes will disappear (from sale, not from your computer!) shortly, so those interested should download ASAP!

Within the windows mixer pages you should find one with tickboxes allowing you to specify which faders should be available.

If you can't figure out a way to patch it internally, get a patch cord and connect your audio out to your audio in on the soundcard ... also know as "looping back in" as you have a loop of patch cord on your sound card.

What's the soundcard? Is the windows mixer the actual XP one or something provided with the soundcard? (I can't help much being way back on Win98SE - where life is simple).

You should open up your mixer, then from the 'Options' menu, select 'Properties'. In the window that opens up, first make sure your soundcard is selected in the dropdown list at the top (you don't have to worry about that unless you have more than one soundcard) Next, select the 'Recording' radio button. Now you should see a list of checkboxes at the bottom of the window. These checkboxes designate what gets displayed on the main mixer display. If MIDI is in the list, check it. If not, then your soundcard probably doesn't have the ability to record MIDI directly, and you will have to go about this another way.

I'm on XP Pro too, and on my Windows mixer, the MIDI volume control is called "SW Synth". Also, you want to make sure that when you open the Windows mixer, you select Properties and look at "show the following volume controls" to make sure the "Sw Synth" option is checked - otherwise it won't show up in the mixer area.

Yep...Marikatechs back!

Now, all these replies...thanx a lot. But naturally, the first I did was to set the mixer, properties etc etc, and NO midi is available, either for recording, or playback.

But the thread here gave me an idea...I swopped soundcards recently, and while XP Pro found and recognised the newish card, I think Ill try finding the installation disk for the card itself.

XP recognises or provides many drivers...but I now think I shall install the proper ones....
Thats gotta be it....

Silly question time....randomly generated music, such as the chimes software creates, must surely be royalty or copyright free, or am I wrong?

best...

Im back again...Ok...got somehwere i guess....

in the ..sounds and audio devices...then properties, found in windows control panel, on the AUDIO tab, theres a section which says...Midi music playback.

The default device is..Microsoft GS wavetable SW synth....ha ha, but, I still cant get this to appear in the recording properties or playback properties, thus, still cant record chimes in CE.!!!

Gggrrrrrr!!!

I installed the sound blaster drivers, and its own mixer, which shows me a midi slider amongst others.....BUT still CE wont record chimes, or even show any input on the meters!!

matter of fact...now, CE wont even record an mp3 playing in media player, in fact, it doesnt have any input going in at all, and the damn SB mixer hasnt got an uninstall, and dont show up in add remove progs either!

Gggrrrrrr!!! again. and Bollox too.

What the hell could be going on??
