I am recording my 5 1/2 hour radio show from a FM tuner into CEP 2.1. I have successfully done this several times. However, on occasion I have had this problem as described in the Knowledge Base:
"Sometimes my wave file gets corrupted and a section of the file keeps repeating itself several times.
Some users have experienced repeated playback of a small section of their audio file. This often happens right after using a transform filter, saving a file, or pressing stop after recording audio.
This is usually caused because of limited Hard disk space. The problem surfaces when Cool Edit does not have enough room to write its temporary files during a transform, save operation, or recording.
To solve this problem, we suggest that you free up more HD space. Generally, 3 times the space is required for ample edit room. (One copy as the original, one as the temp which is created when you open it, and one for editing). If you do not have enough free space, try disabling "undo" before you run a transform. You can disable Undo by selecting Options > Settings > System and unchecking the "Enable Undo" box."
What I do is set the timer to 5 hours, forty seconds, then when I get home I divide it into sections for archiving. This problem occurs immediately when I try playing it back. I have not used a transform filter, saved a file, or *pressed stop after recording audio (usually I do not press stop & just have the timer stop the recording, there have been times when I have pressed stop prior to the 5:40 time elapsing, but I have not seen a correlation between doing that and this problem occurring). The most recent time it happened I checked the hard drive (C-Drive) that the temp files were set to and it had 12 gigs free, while the file itself was 3.35 gigs. This means it was under the 3 x's the size of my file recommendation as mentioned above. The most recent time it was doing the repeating throughout the entire wave. In the past there have been times when it only did it after the first three hours.
I guess my two questions are this:
Is there anyway to recover a file after this has occurred?
How can I prevent this in the future?
If there are details I've left out I will certainly try to fill in the gaps.
By the way, the wave itself looks normal, meaning you can see there is legitimate audio there and not the portion that is repeating itself.

Do you have to use CE to record it? I've mentioned 'HardDiskOgg' before, which will split the incoming audio into files of your choice of size as it goes. And it doesn't have to use Ogg Vorbis. I think it's freeware, or very cheap.
CE is the most wonderful audio tool in the universe, but isn't necessarily totally right for every job - and if it's just the relatively simple task of recording at 16 bits in stereo, it's not doing anything special.
But at least you've brought to my attention a knowledgebase item I don't recall being mentioned before.

Actually there is no reason I really have to use CE to do the recording. I have just been doing so since I then divide it into segments using CE. I will check out the program you mentioned, but your suggestion has got me to thinking. I already have MusicMatch Jukebox which can record from a line in. I have done some initial testing and it seems to be working fine. I plan now to try recording for several hours and see how it does. I will also check out your suggested software. Thanks a million!

Let me emphasise that having done the basic recording, Cool Edit is of course the first choice for everything that follows!
