I have a new Acer TabletPC. I have been using GoldWave and thought I would try CoolEdit 2000. Purchased and installed it. Ran registration successfully. Go to run and the splash screen appears then program goes away with no error messages. I have unistalled and reinstalled.

Any thoughts?

Thanks! Smile

I may have missed something. I do have a computer. I installed the program and when trying to run it all I saw was a splash screen flash and then disappear. I paid for it but can't use it. Sad

Have you tried reinstalling it? How much memory do you have?

Larry, you didn't miss anything. RCE is a little troll that sits around in his "piss-soaked" diaper and spews babble on here trying to get a rise outta folks. You'll learn to ignore his ignorance ravings like the rest of us!! Wink

"Any Thoughts ?"

A few. You just thought you would try Cool Edit. So you went to Syntrillium's web site and handed out your credit card number. I guess it doesn't make a whole lotta difference in the end but, were you aware that you could download a trial version of Cool Edit 2000 ?
Did you maybe do that ?

What I'm asking is, did you have the trial version successfully working before you ran cep2kreg.exe and it stopped ? Or not.

Also, since "everything else" runs with no problem, what else is running when you try to run Cool2K ? By name. What else loads with Windows. (Windows Version ?)

The trial DID load OK. Since I was running out to a convention where I needed it use it and since the Trial is somewhat crippled, I went ahead and paid for it.

Im am running WinXP TabletPC version. Aside from the normal services including Norton Anti-virus, messenger, macroexpress.

I suppose I can continue to look for a cause as I can find the opportunity. I thought that maybe this has happened with someone else.

Yes, there have been other posts like yours, people having similar problems. And although the issues that cause them do vary, they don't vary that much.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. It could be your anti-virus software interfering with the registration program. If the splash-screen didn't flash by so fast, you might be able to read a message on it that says, "Trial Version Expired".

Disable your anti-virus software temporarily, re-boot and re-run cep2kreg.exe and then try to load Cool Edit again.

Next step is support, which is not something to be feared like other places. These guys are blazingly fast and prompt. And razor-sharp.

Either way, please make sure to let everybody know what happens, so if anybody posts with similar........You know ? Knowledge base and all....

Looks like Norton AV MAY have been the culprit. I disabled and retried. Not it works fine. Thanks! Smile

Congrats on getting it up and running. Maybe you can set up a different user profile for when you want to do audio work. Shy

(If it's not a virus it's the anti-virus. Go figure.)

I don't know if he needs to. My thought was that Norton wasn't allowing ce2kreg.exe to alter Cooledit2k.exe. Once Norton's disabled, and the changes made, I would think he'd then be able to re-enable Norton and still run Cooledit.

I wonder......

Probably so. I use a "dedicated" DAW (nothing on it but music), but if I were to use a single computer for all functions, I would set up a user profile that had everything disabled except the "bare-bones" essentials that I needed to record. Shy
