Hey guys, I really need somone's help here. I'm very interested in home multitrack recording, and I have downloaded a few demos over the past few days - n-track, cakewalk home studio 2002, and now cool edit.

So far, cool edit is my fav, but I have had the same problem with every program. I throw down a few guitar tracks, then they all refuse to play in sync! Its all out of time.
The wierd thing is is that two track will usually work fine... but any more, and they just go out of sync. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

I'm running Windows ME. I have a Pent II 1 ghz, 512 megs of Ram. AC'97 sound card (Sorry, I'm no techi... if that is not my soundcard, but some sort of dirver, I think I actualy have a sound blaster 32...) I have tried playing with the buffers and the latency, but to no avail. PLEASE HELP! it is all very frustrating! Sad

One thing to check is to make sure you have your 'show load meter' ON, and that it is not topping out at any time. It would be helpfull to know what your load meter is reading.

Try some of the settings in Options > Settings >Multitrack like "Correct for start sync" or "Correct for drift" - also search the forum for these phrases which will bring up some previous, possibly relevant, threads. I suspect your soundcard is not the greatest and this may be at the root of the problem, especially as it happens in every program. At the end of the day, in Cool Edit, you may have to use right-click-drag on the recorded blocks to shift them bodily into sync.
