Hi,
I’m the guy who first wrote Cool Edit about 11 years ago. There has been some speculation about what I’ll be doing next. So, I just wanted to say that I am indeed still working on Cool Edit and am very excited about what the future has to offer for both the program and for everyone who uses it. When great technologies like those of Adobe and Syntrillium coalesce, the result can be so much greater than either alone. I am very proud to be a part of this next step in the evolution of this software. So in short, “Yes, I’m still around.”
-David.

Glad to hear you're going to stick with it!
I was going to brag about having your autograph on my original CoolEdit registration letter from (I believe) 1994 - but a quick trip through the archives didn't turn it up. I think it was for version 1.31.
In any case, I certainly hope the resources behind a company like Adobe brings good things to CEP without pricing it out of reach for hobbiests like me.
You've followed a good path for last 9 years - I hope this next chapter stays true to the original story line.
Go get 'em!

Good news David, the potential is enormous. And BTW my wife loves your photographs - we have two Goldens, uncle and nephew.

Excellent news. I won't say I'm up to the "warm fuzzy feeling" stage about Adobe yet, but so far so good.
BTW, I hope you don't mind but I've pinched one of your amazing eclipse photos for my desktop......

Glad you're still going to be around. Frankly, my second favorite software program is Adobe's Photoshop "Elements." It is one heck of a photo editing machine.....and it was only $99......about 6 months ago.
I used to tell fellow audio producers that Elements....is the COOL EDIT of photography.
My gut tells me that this is a good move.
Especially...if you stick around.

Mr. Johnston:
For myself, and I think most of us here, the down-home personal feeling of Cool Edit and its community has made it seem this software is "our" package, a bundle to cradle, and the credit for that, I believe, goes directly to you and your staff.
And the extension of that element is this forum, which has allowed users to meld as a true community, and which actually generates the life of the product. Software is worth nothing until it becomes a tool in the hands of creative people. So, my hope is that *this* forum will not die away, because it is well monitored, well visited, highly entertaining, and priceless in its information, encouragement, and comraderie.
Thanks for your leadership, Mr. Johnston. Though it's not always possible to have things remain the same, I'd sure be grateful if the general approach to Cool Edit users never changed with the change of management. Although CNN is not my preferred news channel, still, it lost something when Ted Turner surrendered control, rascal though he can be at times. Hopefully, Adobe won't obliterate your approach... it's what makes us think we can do things almost like the real audio-for-a-living pros. And some of us, with your product, get mighty close to that, and others of us can match them step for step.
Two and a half years ago I needed Cool Edit and didn't know it existed... and now I can't even remember how I stumbled on to it. But when I saw it I knew a frontier was opening up for me.
Again, thanks.

Glad your still onboard Dave! (as I re-hang your picture on the wall). I had just got pictures of Bruce Chizen and James Heeger enlarged and framed, so you right up there with them. (slightly higher up.... of course). :)
Seriously... Congratulations!

Excellent news!
I adore CEP for many reasons, but especially for two of them:
1) It's exactly the software I needed (and I currently need) for my hobby (recording my music)
2) The incredible fast performance of CEP (from the earlier versions [Cool Edit 1.53?] to now [CEP 2.1])
I hope that with Adobe the second option we'll be still avalaible with future versions...
For now, many thanks Mr. Johnston, I've never seen a better programs than yours

One question for anyone at Syntrillium, now that I think about it: What's to become of loopology and the loop CDs? Should I get on the stick and buy them while I can, or will they be around for a while? Can you comment at all?
Thanks,
Josh

Well, I can't really comment on that...but you should pick up the CDs anyway. You'll get thousands of native, 32-bit, beautifully played and recorded loops (drums, bass, guitar, piano, percussion, etc) and you'll sound (and feel) like a rock star!
So much for no sales pitch, eh?
The M.D. is here my friends...
Happy Recording!

Hi David!
We met breifly a couple of years ago in Scottsdale. Hope to cross paths again! Glad you're still on board!
When it all gets sorted out, I can't wait to see what cool things you all come up with!

I'd be wasting my time trying to improve on the above members' eloquence, so I'll just add some British 'three cheers'(haven't yet learned enough Australian to use the local phrase). I have to credit you in part with my recent addiction for digital photography too. Now my last remaining worry is that I can't find my Kaleidoscope serial number....

Always the salesman! Somehow I thought you might not be able to comment... I'll have to pick them up. ;)
On another note, it's good to see your excitement... it's quite comforting to those of us who are still out of the loop.

Hey! I found my autographed copy of my Cool Edit registration letter - Jan '95 for version 1.34. It was in the file labeled "Cool Edit".
I was looking in the wrong drawer last time.
About 50% of the motivation to write this message is that I'm getting REAL close to a third star!

thank u thank u thank u ... in norway we usually say thank u thousand times, but ... ;)
i have used cool edit since 1995 or so (win 3.1)and i still now and then read in the old coolman.zip manual cause it says a lot of how to use the brainwaves function.
when i explain cool edit to my friends i usually says that david guy is a genious. what algorithms must not be behind some of that stuff ... no one to compare with.
keep up the good work
