i have been searching a bit and have contacted support but i'm looking for some feeback on why cool edit pro works fine for an hour or two and then crashes everytime i try to record a new track. i have done syntrillium's suggestions for optimizing for xp.
O/S: XP/pro - service paks & updates installed
AMD anthlon XP 2200+ running at 1.98 Gigs
my system is tweaked (unneed services stoped and/or disabled)
i have a 40 gig HD
1 gig memory
creative sound blaster live! platinum card with current drivers
i defrag, restart, and still cannot record. i have uninstalled and reinstalled cep 2.0 and the update to 2.1. will work fine for awhile and then the same problem. any thoughts? i'd be happy to provide any further info about my PC. Thanks!

I think there might be some sort of conflict with the SB Live Value card. I tried using one in conjunction with the Audiophile 2496 card yesterday, and CEP was crashing all over the place, I took the card out and the crashing stopped, so make of it what you will. I was using the SB Live card for awhile by itself without any problems, other than it being a little noisy. Currently I'm running Windows ME, and CEP 2.1 is working very well.
I'm also running an Atholon 900 chip and 256 ram. I've noticed though if my computer gets really hot it'll crash, so I try to keep it cool by not restricting air flow, while trying to eliminate computer fan noise with sound proofing material. You may also want to check your chip's heat sink for dust build up. I checked mine awhile back and found it loaded with dust to the point the heat sink wasn't working. The chip was getting too hot and the computer wouldn't run right. Since that's been cleaned out, keeping the chip cool seems to help the computer run error free.
You asked for any thoughts.

If length of time of use is the only pattern for the problem, then heat build-up sounds the most likely cause. I wouldn't change the sound card to address this problem too fast, unless you have other reasons to change. With a PC in our household showing similar symptoms (on any program), replacing the whole damn thing sorted it out nicely.....

I actually have an additional fan installed in my case but maybe i will bring the sound card closer to the fans or install a third. but i really can't imagine a sound card heating up like a graphics card or processor. i also wanted to make it clear that the program itself is crashing not my entire system.
