Greetings all,
I'm in the process of mixing down several songs. Everything sounds OK but when I play the songs on a boombox the bass in non-existent. When I listen to professional recordings on the same boomboxes the bass, although much quieter, is still audible. Is there a particular frequency range that I could boost to make the bass audible in low-end players without muddying-up the sound when played on high-end players?
Many thanks,
Stephen

What speakers are you using for monitoring the mix? Do they reveal anything of the difference between your material and the professional recording? There have been a number of previous threads which indicate that problems with "portability" of a mix often arise because of the inadequacy of the mastering monitoring system.

I know this is way oversimplified, but just in general, most people have a tendency to add too much lows and not enough low mids to bass. The low mids are more what you hear; the lows are more what you feel. You might try running the "Remove subsonic rumble" scientific filter and see if that clarifies the sound any.
