IK Multimedia announced that their T-RackS plug-in is now shipping for VST and DX platforms, including Cubase, Logic VST and Sonar. Compatibility has also been extended to ProTools 6 on MacOSX.

T-RackS plug-in provides an all-in-one mastering solution. These tools include five sound processors, 6-band EQ, classic tube modeled compressor, multi-band master limiter, soft-clipping stage, and a complete mastering suite containing the modules in one mastering plug-in constructed with actual physical models of tube (valve) circuitry.

T-RackS friendly GUI resembles typical hardware devices, making it easy to control the five powerful processors. More than 50 mastering presets, covering the complete range of solutions for any kind of music and requirement.

T-RackS is available as a VST plug-in (Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP -- MacOS 9), RTAS/HTDM (MacOS 9/MacOS X), for Digidesign ProTools LE or TDM (HD compatible) and DX for Cakewalk Sonar

What, no mention of Cool Edit? After all this is Syntrillium's Forum. Shy

Thanks for the clarification. I suspected as much, but was taken aback that your post never mentioned Cool Edit. This is Synt's website and we gotta give them their "propers"!!! Wink

Hi,

I downloaded it and tried it briefly, it crashed CEP when I closed it - so I have uninstalled it again! Woops!

I haven't tried the "plug-in" yet. I have T-Racks 24 (the stand alone) and it ROCKS!!!!! Wink

I agree with Voodoo. I use the stand alone version as well and I love it. Plus it's very simple to use - witch for me is a MUST!!

TRacks DXi plugs crashes CooleditPro on my Carillon system. They work in Sonar and FruityLoops Studio. TRacks plugins will not process waveforms. (I haven't tried them in the multitrack bin.) When I cancel the plugin, CEP crashes. The error message tells me to change my setting or try processing again. What setting need to be changed?

For this one, I'd probably contact I.K. Multimedia's Technical Support and let them help me out. Shy

In the 45 minutes I got to play with the T-Racks DX plugin version I purchased it sounded way better and was more manageable than the standalone T-Racks24 version I have.

Unfortunately I have contacted T-Racks support to assist me with the CEP/Sound Forge host crashing problem, the stuck knob display values and switch lights that don't display the correct indications. Hopefully we can get the problem isolated soon.

Anyone else seeing this problem with the plug-in on CEP ? I'm running P4 2.66GHz, 1GB ram, Windows XP SP1. Just checking for a quick 'fix' or other tidbit. I'm in the middle of a project of course...

I have used the plug-in version yet, but I do use the "stand alone". That said, I can see where you might allude to the plug-in being... "more manageable", but I seriously need "enlightening" to understand.... "it sounds way better". Shy

...in response to Mr. VoodooRadio,

I can say that I was able to successfully adjust loudness and saturation with the T-RackS24 standalone version. Some things sounded good and controlled dynamically, others sounded too squished, hot and in your face. I had the feeling of the racecars at the Indy 500 being the music and T-RackS standalone being the brick wall around the track.

During the short time I used T-RackS plug-in last night I can say that the compressor and limiter seem more musical instead of simply compressing, limiting and squishing in an extreme case. T-RackS could explain why that is, my ears feel as if they have improved the saturation characteristics of both the compressor and limiter so that they now give a sense of 'air', 'openness' and 'space' to the material that was somewhat crushed with my use of the standalone.

There is a feeling that I can push the mastering suite from full transparancy to a way colored sparkling saturation and loudness demon. Magic pops out of the mix that was hidden before, etc. Subjective kind of stuff. I have another compressor I thought that about, Timeworks CompressorX, but this one seems to go a step further with the saturation or whatever non-linear doodling they have going.

Once I've finished a project with it I'll have a better idea of the sound and usability. Currently I'm waiting for T-RackS support to address a few things I've had to report. The plugin itself is relatively expensive and the upgrade seems a little high too. If I can use it on a lot of projects then it will be worth it. The problems I'm having may be on my side also that's why I'm trying to feel around to other plugin users. Hopefully support and I will isolate this quickly.

The program material I've used this on so far has already been pre-Mastered (gross EQ and dynamics repairs using Ionizer - I'm a home mastering enthusiast so these types of mixes can happen - usually because of bad recording/listening/mixdown - what else ?). I am not using the T-RackS mastering suite to repair any EQ or dynamics that are really bad. I would say I tried to 'finalize' or fine-tune a song that was close to being ready for the world. The song is in 24/44.1 format. I do not depend on the presets, I may bring one up then make adjustments to suit the music. There is a lot of control there using the threshold and attack and overdrive to mention my favorite knobs from my single session !

I would attribute my opinion of the new plugin to the new controls, some to my particular use of the tools, some to my status as a beginning home mastering enthusiast and some to my own subjectivity.

So that's it, I'll know more later. Maybe we'll get some other technical and subjective opinions here.

Hello everyone,

There seems to be some weird thing that happens with TR plug in and CEP and Sound Forge. We are looking into it right now.

Thanks for your patience.
