LONG TIME READER...>SECOND TIME POSTER!

First of all I am a newbie who is doing his research before starting a small audio production/ recording studio.

My question for those in the KNOW is..... What will the Mackie Control MIDI Controller do for me?.. (I am using CEP2.0) I am also in the process of building my own DAW (PC). I would like to use the Aardvark Q-10. Is the Mackie Control necessary? Helpful? Heck what exactly will it do? Any help would be appreciated.

I did a search and read a bit on this subject. However, most of that INFO was back in January. Can anyone give me an update?

Why not check out the Red Rover on the Syntrillium main page? Shy

I'm not sure how compatible it is with CEP, but quite simply it will allow you to control your mix with real knobs and faders. The signal never leaves the computer, so the only real negative point is the new hole in your pocket. How well it acts with CEP if for Synt to tell. Just remember that it is not a mixer, meaning that there are no analog inputs or outputs of any sort, and no routing options; it's just a controller.

It's quite frustrating, actually. I had my hands on one of these units on the Mackie stand at an exhibition recently, and I said 'Is the CEP version ready yet?' They said 'Yes - we haven't got it here, but I think we may have a keyboard overlay around the back'. So I waited in anticipation, only to be told 5 minutes later that it wasn't there... and so, despite being tantalisingly close to an answer to "what does it control?", I still can't tell you exactly.

But if you want a clue, have a look in CEP2.0 at the keyboard assignements setup, and find out which ones can be assigned MIDI controls, because whatever this box can do is going to be based on that lot plus...???

Hi all. The Mackie Control can be used - as a live controller. By that I mean, we don't 'write' automation - you'll still have to make changes to envelopes manually.

But, you can do some pretty nifty EQ/Fader stuff, as well as access dozens of menus, transports, etc. This includes Edit View commands (Undo/Redo, opening the Frequency & Phase windows, Spectral View, Insert, Cut/Copy/Paste, etc.) as well as Multitrack functions (split, session properties window, Mixer, Trigger enable, SMPTE M/S enable, nudge, and more)

Also, track names, EQ and Pan positions all appear on the Mackie's LCD screen.

Well, there you go...

Maybe I should have put the thumbscrews on Mackie!

Indeed, the overlay is pretty cool. :)

So basically it will help the overall "LOOK" because the overlay is cool. I am all for looking cool. It looks like it could be a valuable piece of hardware though. We'll see whow much I win at the boat this weekend. Thanks for the INFO.
