Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and its really great, all the tips and tricks!
My question is: Is there a way, in cool edit pro to get the .cda files and save them a way that we can play it in Dalet..we play mp2 files in dalet..we just bought Dalet a few weeks ago and the training is coming soon. But for now, we record all the songs in real time..and it take a long time.
thank for response.
I hope my question is ok cause I'm a french guy working in a radio station in quebec province Canada

While it's easy to rip from CD to CEP (easier within 2.0, but you could use Audiograbber or similar to get into 1.2), there is no MP2 export filter from CEP. There is a link on the support pages to an MP2 filter, but I think it's expensive.

The old beta coolmp32.exe program is still out on the net somewhere. I don't know if that would convert TO MP2, but it would from MP2. It wasn't particularly stable though.

Here's a link from the support pages on MP2 and CEP

The old coolmp32 program does work as an encoder, and is stable enough to be usable here at least.

I dug out the commercial acm mp2 encoder by QDesign today and re-installed on Windows XP. To my surprise it still works fine (I found it on a long-retired W95 machine) as long as you register it when first installing. The later pop-ups inviting registration crash my machine. No doubt QDesign have an upgrade for this.

There was also a QDesign mp2 encoder incorporated in a program given away by the makers of Zip disks, which I've used in the past. Can't remember its name, though.

James,

Dalet *HAS* an application to copy CD audio into the Titles (and Base Browser).

Here is how to get to it:

Global -- Run Application... -- select "cdcopy.app" -- Hit "OK"

Put the CD in, highlight the track you want in CDCopy, and go to the CD Copy menu, and select "Save...". There, you enter the information and assign its category.

CD Copy *IS* a CD ripper.

...If you do not see "cdcopy.app", the Administrator needs to change the permissions for your workstation. Call the New York office (www.dalet.com), and they can help you with that. It's simple to fix.

As far as I know, Surfer and CDCopy are the only ways to add audio within Dalet, because it uses its own Database and soundfile heap to keep track of things. Not to mention the categories. Sound files have non-standard names, and are referenced within the Sybase or Paradox database (which holds the Title, Artist, Category, etc).

CDCopy, even on a 2X cd drive, will save you twice the time. It's a pretty good module in Sound-Workstation.

Well, maybe this reply comes a little late (4 moths later) but I think this is useful information for anyone with this problem.

You should check this site http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htmand take a special look at the codecs section.

It's quick and really easy.

Well...never too late.
thanks.
The problem was, and its still, the sample rate at 48,000. You know that a c.d. is at 44,000 , so we can't rip in dalet. We have to record in real time. The positive things in that?? It give works for peoples and that way, we are certain that the music we have in our system is free from scratch and other things..
thanks again

Well, as a matter of fact you CAN rip a CD to Dalet with this tool and the apropiate codec.

This codec automatically converts your audio to .snd with either 256 or 384 kbps and 48000 khz to fit in Dalet without a single problem.

I'm telling you... it works like a charm... by the way, in our radio station we use Dalet too Wink
