Topic I wanted to type out: Cool Edit Pro *adjusts* the audio when I cut! Is there a way to prevent it?

And the subject says it all. Basically when I zoom in and select a bit and cut it, Cool Edit Pro is nice enough to adjust the uncut pieces on either end of the range so as, I am guessing, to minimize any hypothetical audible artifacts. The problem is I know what the hell I'm doing, and when I want to make a brute force cut, I don't want the program to do me any unwanted favors.

Is there a way to turn off this "feature"? Right now my only solution is to keep an unregistered Cool Edit '96 running in the background, which I mercifully did not uninstall.

Thanks in advance.

Well, you can try this...
Go into Options/Settings/Data and turn everything that's related to smoothing and crossfading OFF.

Just remember that if you leave non-zero values hanging off the ends of your pieces of wav file (what I call "loose ends"), you may have some problems with the resultant edges - and may induce something akin to transients.

On the other hand, maybe I'm not clear on what you're trying to do...

All the best... -Jon

That was what I had to do. Thanks. (And I didn't turn off everything.. just the operations which were confounding my attempts at precision cutting/pasting).
