Hello,

I have a free/share ware copy of cool edit, but am looking for something better, even though I love this thing for splitting up sound files. It's soooo easy and therefore the best.
I recorded a little bit and tried to save what I recorded, but the SAVE was greyed out.
It's always something, isn't it ? (No answer please)

My question is, in a bought and paid for full version of cool edit, am I able to record from my stereo set up, (plugged into my sound card) recording onto cool edit and then save it as a wav file ? AND Is this something NOT included in the free/share ware version?

Thank you for your help
Jack

ya, you can do just about anything in CEP...
It just doesnt allow you to save the files if it is not registered.

One must make the distinction of which Cool Edit that is being referred to.

There is Cool Edit 96 that is shareware, which is functional with restrictions and fully functional with purchace.

Now there is Cool Edit 2000 which is fully functional with restrictions and fully functional when purchased.

Then there is Cool Edit Pro, which is the daddy. It has a restricted demo unless purchased.

Following up on Beetle's advice... Download the demo version of CoolEdit2000. It gives you 30 days of 'play' time, where it will allow you to record, edit, and save. You'll like it so much that you'll pay for it!

I would be interesting to see how many demos were download vs. license sold.

Synth can you give us some stats?

I am one of those that downloaded the demo of Ce2K, tried it for 30 days loved it so much that I bought it, then tried the NR plugin, loved that so much that I bought it. If it were not for the demo, that I had tried, I don't think I would of bought it. I have been burned before on editing software that I bought before trying. But CE2k and the plugin I bought are worth every penny.

I ended up buying CE2K as well and never regret it. Their 30 days demo concept is quite good. The only drawback is that no CD-ROM and manual are shipped upon licence agreement. I know that you can download the PDF for CEP which is the main platform of CE2K but ... still no CD-rom. I use this software daily and always fear that I will loose it one way or another so no available back up.

Urumuqi,

I'm not sure what you mean by not having a backup. You could save your initial install files, your current CE directory structure, a text file with your registration codes, and any other relevent information onto a CD-R or CD-RW. Personally, I back up everything to TR-4 tapes.

Everything else failing, as long as you have a printed copy of your registration codes you can always re-download from the website and re-apply your registration code.

To Jack's original post - buy it. It's well worth the money and yes, all of the save functions work once you install the registration.

Thank you for the suggest DanT. It was already done. I am not quite sure that I can restart the whole thing from the backup if the original fails.
