I heard a discussion on the radio today while I was eating lunch. Sounds like an interesting coding scheme.
For the cost of doing away with some backwards compatability it sounds like a better coding scheme than MP3 and has some ability to control use of the resulting material.
Does anyone know of an existing or vaporware CEP plug-in for AAC?

I am also looking for a input plugin for cool edit for viewing aac files. I went to the site
http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/
and got a zip file which was mentioned as a plug in for both cool edit and winamp but when I opened the exe, it is detecting staight away the winamp location.
Can some one please give any insight.
cheers,
tony

There's a .flt file inside the zip file. Copy it to your CoolEdit folder and restart CoolEdit (You may need to delete flt.dat)

Hi rjamorim,
I copied the .flt file to cool edit and restarted cool edit. But it said that the path of cooledit.exe is missing and then it said error code 129 failed to load faac.flt.
By the by is it an input pluggin or an output pluggin?
Thanks very much for your reply.
regards,
Tony

That's weird. It works at home. No clue. :(

Both. Actually, you can even read .MP4 files with this. (Audio part only, of course...)
Good luck.

Roberto.

Sorry to be a bit off topic as I dont have links to the plug in. I got it some time back and now it is working fine.
I had to delete flt.dat and also libmmd.dll was needed. Thanks Roberto for that and he will be of help for you.
What you need is FAAC.flt file.
regards,
Tony

also worth checking into on hydrogen audio is peter pawlowski's foobar2000, a back-to-the-basics player:
