I have presented several excerpts in the forum that were derived from original recordings in format up to 96/24. Most of them were piano but I have never found any particular artifact using the built in version of the Fraunhofer coder in AA3.0. I would like to listen to the problems cited !

This thread

I replaced the bad version in the opening post, but linked to it a few posts down.

Thanks Paul for your examples. I admit the artifacts as present in the first sample are  completely intolerable. However I suspect that the problem may not be due to the Fraunhofer mp3 coder, but rather occured during the file copying needed to run the coder from. Recently I had a very similar effect simply by copying such a file from an SD recorder card to the internal harddisk. By repeating the procedure, the artefact had gone also. I could not track the reason why this happened but was sure that it did. Thus I advise to repeat the coding from scratch to confirm that the coder really was the culprit. I am  eager to hear  the outcome !

Oh, I did repeat it (though my computers are reliable - I would not tolerate such a copying error).  But that was ten years ago, so If I tried it again now I wouldn't be using the same version of the encoder, I expect.

I would not accept such a behaviour in my computers as well, but it might have been a singular event, may be due to a bad contacting SD card. Any way I cannot remember a bad working mp3 encoder though usually I use a 256 kbps version and take care to start from a 44.1kHz/16bit *.wav file in AA3.0(1). Since I am on  the road currently I experience many more of the wonders of MS .......
