Swapping left/right channels on the fly
When I am testing a mix, I like to swap left/right speakers to see how the opposite pan sounds.
This helps me around the subtleties of my differing hearing in each ear.
What do the rest of you do to address this problem, and is there a simple way to do this inside Audition ?
Right now, I swap speaker plugs - clumsy.
Thanks,

In Multi Track mode, simply switch the pans on each track.

Stand on your head?
(only joking!)
I would like to point out though, that unless you can guarantee that your listening situation is
absolutely
symmetrical, it will be more than the differences in your hearing that you are compensating for...

Re: Swapping left/right channels on the fly
Since the differences in your hearing are the same when monitoring as when you are listening to any other material with which you might make comparisons (including essentially all the sound in your life), I would be hesitant to say that doing this would help in any way.

Re: Swapping left/right channels on the fly
Maybe this should be a feature request for a future version?
I often switch to mono to check compatibility and I find Reaper's versatile mono (or reversed stereo) button to be a great replacement for the buttons on my old mixing desk. I don't remember finding such a feature in Audition although I guess you could insert the channel mixer in the master output effects loop and achieve a similar thing with presets.
Cheers
James.

Every channel strip Audition 3's mixer, including the Master, has a mono button.

But I don't think it offers choices of L+R, L, R, or L-R (not that I've ever personally actually needed them). The Kelly Industries Stereo Tools plugin is handy for this kind of general stuff though.

Re: Swapping left/right channels on the fly
I have had in my mind for a while a detailed proposal for improving the monitoring facilities in Audition that I'm going to put to the developers. I have no idea whether they will do anything about it, but since it plays rather directly into the hands of one of the software's largest customers, I hope they'll at least listen.
I'm not going to explain it all here, but if you want to know exactly what it's based on, then a very good explanation can be read almost at the end of this SOS review
here
. In reality, this is just about all the monitoring control you need - although I don't suppose that it would matter
too
much to include a channel reverse facility as well...

Put the channel mixer effect on your master bus - set it to reverse the channels.

Well enough, but take Karl's deal a step further and you could prepare an effect rack preset with multiple instances of Channel Mixer, all bypassed when the preset is stored, with these various combinations. Then load the rack into the master, and enable/disable to your heart's content.

Bingo ! I just knew there was a simple technique.
There's even a built-in preset to swap channels.
Thanks for the time-saver.
