SFX Library?
I'm lookin for a new SFX Library and rather than go to websites and read what the creators say about their product...I would like to know if any pros that actually use them could offer up any suggestions?
Lookin for real life SFX, not an imaging library. Thanks a lot!

SFX Library?
You don't say if you actually want to buy the CDs or if you want an on-line service...
If you want to buy a CD library, the two leading libraries are Sound Ideas (
http://www.sound-ideas.com/
) and the BBC Library (which, in the USA, is also distributed by Sound Ideas. If you're in the UK, Canford, de Wolfe and several others will sell it). Between the full Sound Ideas series and the BBC stuff, you'll likely cover 99% of your needs.
If, on the other hand, you want an online service, the two I use regularly are
http://www.sounddogs.com
and
http://www.sound-effects-library.com/
. I've used both and both are good.

Sorry I wasn't more specific in my post. Yeah, probably looking for a relatively inexpensive buy out library. Thanks for the help.

I have been using
www.bigfishproduction.com
for over a year now and am really happy with it. Go to his website, his name is Ian and he will help you along. Good prices too!

Does he sell sound effects, or imaging effects? i went to the website and found it a bit confusing.
I think garfield is looking for
sound
effects (as opposed to
imaging
effects), although I could be wrong.

SFX Library?
Granted its been 13 years or so, but my favorite sound effects library came from the bargain bin in a music store. 400 sound effects for $9.99. I'd say at least 80 percent of them are good usable stuff.
I also don't mind the freebie that came with a subscription to RAP magazine.
At my AM stations sometimes I will use findsounds.com since it's a free service but the sounds normally sound like crap and not knowing where they came from you may be violating copyright.
Yeah, I know. I'm a master scrounger.

SFX Library?
For ambient & background noise sorts of things - whether nature or urban - I often use Atmosphere from
www.relaxingsoftware.com
. I either let the software mix the sounds I want, or if the timing of sounds is important I will grab the WAV files I want to use from it's library and put them into a MT session.
It's quite a package for $40.

If you have a bit of a budget to spend, you might want to check out
Sound FX Hub
. They offer super professional sound effects cd's and libraries. Again, they are pretty pricey but you get what you pay for - they sound really professional.

To add another name to the list, I've used Sonomic
http://www.sonomic.com
quite a lot and I'm very happy with them.

Re: SFX Library?
I use Sounddogs.com:
http://www.Sounddogs.com/
They carry virtually all libraries ever published and also build custom libraries which I found to be a very useful combination (
http://www.sounddogs.com/htm/CustomBuiltLibraries.htm
).
Hope it helps

Sorry, but I don't think it will, for two reasons:
Firstly, this is a very old thread now, and secondly, if you'd read it, you'd find that this particular library has already been linked to in it...

Re: SFX Library?
Old thread as this is, - like a lot of the links now lead nowhere.
I can understand wanting to get good FX for a lo / no amount of cash.
But it takes time, using expensive kit to produce sound effects.
Should people who spend hours producing great SFX actually be paid for doing this?
If the answer is yes:-
The "right price" is far from clear, some FX are very easy to record & edit (in a time/benefit sense). Eg some sounds are sufficiently loud that quite cheap equipment may give different but not inferior results to that produced by the $10,000+ price kit I use.
But, it's very easy to spend 10's of hours with no usable recordings at all. Or a gun shot say, less than 1 second long, [SFX prices are heavily influenced by length] will likely take a day to record & edit + travel and the cost of a Licensed Armourer.
I like to record all fx, but hard to record is more interesting.
"Free" FX are sometimes good, but will almost certainly be "easy" to record. Most free FX will be rubbish.
