Do You Play, or Need Group Therapy ?
Quote from: Graeme
Any man in a long-term relationship (marriage or otherwise) merely has to learn to intone the following phrase at the first hint of discord;
"I'm sorry dear, it's all my fault."
I think that would make a good T-Shirt.
In an interview a year or so ago, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter made the comment that, for as long as he and his wife Rosalyn had been together, she had never once admitted that she was wrong about anything.
I have to admit that it baffles me, this general line of illogic: "Yes, I know nobody's perfect. I'm not perfect. But I've never been wrong about anything. Don't ever plan on being wrong about anything. At least I don't plan on ever admitting that I'm wrong about anything." It must be nice to take that approach to life and still go to bed with an untroubled conscience. Wonder how far the team who just put their baby on Mars would have gotten with that approach to the project (not admitting they were ever wrong about anything)? (They were actually wrong about quite a few things that had to be corrected before liftoff. Admitting they made mistakes, and fixing them, worked!)
I've been married to the same woman since 1974. Graeme knows what he is talking about.

Yes, it's good advice. And often as not it gets you the sympathy vote. It's worked for 23+ years here!
Mind you, SWMBO did say that she was wrong about something once - she
said
that she'd made a mistake, and then discovered that she hadn't...
(good job she's unlikely to read this!)

I take a similar approach in most everything I do. If a mistake has been made, that's in the past. Pointing a finger does no good
unless it helps teach a lesson that will prevent the same mistake from being made again.
If it's just a difference of opinion, let it slide.
The engergy needs to be spent on resolving the issue, not on finding fault. Dwelling on the past does not benefit anyone. If saying that I did something wrong helps to close the book for someone else, then I'll say it. Time to move on.
going on 21 years here.

This is becoming a group session..... I'm single, so it
is
always my fault.

Actually, I can sing in tune - that's not a problem, but the sound is AWFUL - the cat can do better!
Then your at least one step before me! If I recall the times I had to sing.....

What a great forum.... Group Therapy.
And to be
just
a little naughty here.... "This topic has gone OT. Shouldn't it be splitted?"
Sorry.
and apologies.

Well, playing music is often regarded as a form of therapy (unlike my awful puns) - so maybe this is more on-topic than might be supposed. Anyway, splitting this topic may cause even more trauma - so for the time being it can stay - but it could of course be
renamed
slightly... (hint)

Or - wives and girlfriends are instruments that can make beautiful music if we learn to play them properly - so not so far OT?
I think Cal was joking about splitting this thread??

Couldn't we introduce a new forum: "OT Polls"?

A quite nice example of your signature line, about "better having tried and failed.... "
