Opening a 24-bit file multiple times in AA3
Hello, haven't been here for a while and now I have yet another newbie question(s):
1 - I understand Audition automatically converts any WAV file to 32-bit when opening it. Right?
2 - If 1 is right, does opening the same 24-bit file multiple times in Audition have an effect on its quality? Is it degraded?
Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Opening a 24-bit file multiple times in AA3
It's only compressed files that degrade with multiple openings in Audition, and the degradation only takes place when the file is resaved in the original compressed format - it's the act of compression that degrades them.
But 24-bit files aren't compressed, so the only way that they could seriously degraded would be if you reduced the amplitude seriously (say 40-50dB) and re-saved the file. If you then reopened it and boosted the volume again, you'd find that you'd lost bit depth. The way to avoid this is to open the 24bit file (which is an integer file, hence the problem) in Audition as a 32-bit floating point file, and save it as this until you've finished working on it. This way you lose nothing upon finally re-saving as a 24-bit one.

Wow, that was very fast!
