AA3 & Izotope Ozone 4 problem
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help me regarding my problem!?.
I have started using Audition 3.0.1, and have installed ozone 4, when I have a song in the edit mode and then click effects, then VST for Ozone 4, Ozone loads up fine and I am able to click on just a preset and click OK
at the bottom it will convert the song to the selected preset fine.
But if I start to play my song and move to various other presets and then try to click to convert the song Audition 3 freezes?
Can anybody advise me please, I have checked on YT for help videos but none show you what the final actions are to get the file converted.
Also I have downloaded the Izotope PDF file, it has 64 pages of explanation of all the good things within the package, but again no actual indication of the final steps.
I am brand new to this audio recording and editing field but am enjoying it, and it is turning into a hobby for me, but I am struggling.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Alan

You appear to be somewhat misunderstanding how this works, I'd say. The methodology of using Ozone is the same as it is for any other effect; you highlight in Audition the area you want to effect (or do nothing, and the whole track is selected), open Ozone, and then, after you've selected a preset (which I should emphasise is only a starting point), you hit the preview play/stop button on the left hand side (
not
Okay) and then make adjustments to the various elements that are operating within Ozone until the preview is sounding the way you want it to. When you are completely happy, then, and
only
then, do you click on Okay - that will apply the settings you have selected to your track. If you want to go back and redo anything, then you use Audition's 'undo' and repeat the whole operation.

Also I have downloaded the Izotope PDF file, it has 64 pages of explanation of all the good things within the package, but again no actual indication of the final steps.
The simple reason for that is that Ozone operates in a wrapper - and they are different in every different piece of software you can use Audition in. The basic principles of using Ozone in Audition are no different from using any other VST effect though.
I would also respectfully suggest that if you, as a relative beginner, are using Ozone, then you are very brave! You can do an awful amount of damage with it very easily; you
absolutely
need a decent pair of monitor speakers and a controlled acoustic environment before you can be reasonably sure that you aren't doing things that you may come to regret in the future. Over-processing is an
incredibly
easy trap to fall into...
And the reason that any preset is only a starting point is because all audio is inherently different - what's correct for one sound is very unlikely to be completely correct for another - unless of course they are identical, and being used in the same way. And that's not very likely, I'd say.

Welcome to the forum.
Thank for the welcome, and thanks for the swift response, it's appreciated.
I understand what you are saying to me in the first part of your response, and I will apply what you suggest. But what I have found is that when I click the preview/play button and after click it again to stop the replay if I then click OK on the preset box and then click OK further down it locks up... but if I don't stop the preview/playing and click both OK buttons it converts OK. So stopping the preview/play seems to cause the lockup?, or don't use the preview buuton at all.
I can see that it is very likely my incorrect use of the programme that is causing my problems, and I am glad to receive any advice that points me in the right direction.
Regarding your second part of your response, I agree completely with what you are saying. I am a retired, deaf person learning to play the acoustic guitar, and my new hobby is developing into an enjoyable time for me that has also expanded into the audio editing side, I'm having a good time learinging new things. So I really don't want to have studio monitors disturbing my neighbour's or indeed anyone in my own house. (I record my music through M-audio fast track and use headphones)
Ideally with learning AA3 and then finding Ozone 4, I have been delighted to find the difference it can make to a song, by even just using one preset.
I hope my reply is in the correct position, because the text box keeps disappearing as I type, I'm sorry if it is not right, it is difficult to see what I am writing, but I am again appreciative of your comments

Only a
bit
weird - but don't worry about that - I've sorted it out.

You don't really need to run the monitors any louder than the guitar playing itself most of the time, so I wouldn't have said that this was necessarily a problem. I'm only saying this because it's actually very difficult to monitor successfully on headphones - even if you aren't partially deaf. They make a complete mess of the acoustic perspective - fine for editing details, but not at all suited to getting a good sound balance with effects, or whatever.
As for the Ozone lockup, I'll have to try to replicate that later, although I can't say that I've noticed it doing what you've described here at all. But there again, I don't use it in quite the way you have!

Thank you Steve, yes I can understand and appreciate what you mean re the use of monitors/speakers, and of course as you suggest, in normal circumstances they would only need to be as loud as the actual audio you produce, but the problem for me is that all my music can only be heard properly by me using headphones, using an M-audio FT interface I can hear what I play/record through my headphones... as I record. Having said that, I think I should maybe have a look at setting up something as you describe, to at least try/see/listen before I just accept defeat in that area.
Thank you again for your help

Re: AA3 & Izotope Ozone 4 problem
Think issue to which OP is referring is that for some Fx, in edit mode, if you try to execute the process while Audio is playing system locks up. You have to stop replay then click on OK. There were also, for some plugs, other actions that produced the same system lock. Switching presets might be one of those. Work around was to simply stop replay prior to taking those actions.
By time I'd upgraded to 3.01 my work process had already accommodated the AA3 unruly behavior and perhaps not surprisingly I never tested it after the upgrade . . . not sitting at an AA machine at the moment but might need to return and review

Hello & thank you for your response.
It does seem to be near the problem, but as I explained, my lockup happens when i stop the replay. If I keep the replay going and click ok in the preset manager, and then click Ok lower down, it auto stops the replay and converts to the new preset fine.
I'm sorry but the text box is a real problem here, it keeps vanishing and I lose a line of text so I can't see what I'm typing
Hope you can understand what I'm trying to say
Regards
