There's a program called Adobe Audition 3.0 that can do this.

Audition 2.0 can do it too.

The "center channel extractor" is what you need.

How well it will work depends how the song is recorded/mixed.  I doubt you will find any program that will completely eliminate the main vocal because reverb and other effects make it hard to eliminate it completely without hearing obvious artifacts, but I use it all the time to drop the main vocal 6dbs or so for spots with great results.

You don't even need expensive software to do that sort of thing, you can get it all done with a free program like Audacity. All you have to do is (when dealing with stereo at least) mix the left track with the inverted right track. Granted this won't be perfect, but it will accomplish it just as well as programs like Adobe Audition.

Actually it won't. Audition's center channel extractor works in a completely different way, and actually leaves the remaining stereo field intact, as well as doing a better overall job of center channel removal than the old subtractive method - which it's also quite capable of.

I suggest that before making any other silly comments like the above, that you actually find out what Audition is capable of - clearly rather more than you think.

I stand corrected. My apologies.
