"The new format, which has a file extension format of MT9 and a commercial title of "Music 2.0", is poised to replace the popular MP3 file format as the de-facto standard of the digital music source, its inventors say."
Well, they would, wouldn't they
.
I predict this will sink without trace.

Re: Music 2.0
I can find nothing about the format itself. It appears to handle 6 channels - just like lots of existing formats. But all the rest appears to be simply saying that they distribute 6-track mixes for you to modify yourself using their own player.
Move on, nothing to see here...

Wow. Now I'll be able to remix the drum and base (sic) on my mobile phone.

Sink without a trace, no doubt. How many mastering engineers are likely to want to forgo their craft so you can try to out guess them?

AAC was the next logical progression from mp3 - and while iTunes is one of the major sources of AAC files, many of the newer download stores are going for mp3 rather than AAC. So I doubt that the world is ready to move away from mp3 in the near future.

AAC sounds better than mp3, but the reason the labels are moving to mp3 isn't because they have no DRM, it's because they want to loosen Apple's grip on the downloading game.

Re: Music 2.0
And Apple has refused to license lossless AAC - and has threatened legal action against anyone who uses it commercially, eg. Linn Records...
