Audition 3.0 vs. Adobe Reader (pdf)
Anyone ever upgrade Adobe Reader and then have a problem with your Audition as a result?

I am pretty sure that one of older Reader upgrades wiped all registry branches under "Adobe". Can't recall details however.

That's what I suspected. Do you think Adobe has corrected that problem?
I actually had something like that happen a few years ago. I can't remember exactly which version of Audition I was using at the time (maybe 1.0 or 1.5) -- or which version of Reader I had -- but when I upgraded Reader it created a real mess with Audition and all my presets.
Right now I'm using AA 3.0 and Reader 8 and was thinking about upgrading to Reader 9 -- but I sure don't want to go through that nightmare again. I'd stick with Reader 8 in a heartbeat if I thought I'd have to deal with all that again.

Uninstalling Acrobat/Reader v5 deleted the whole Adobe registry settings tree.

Re: Audition 3.0 vs. Adobe Reader (pdf)
I couldn't recall the details, but I remembered this was something that was complained about some time ago.
A quick search of this forum revealed it was tcatzere that had the problem - posted on 10 Feb 2008! Then, uninstalling Adobe Reader trashed his AA1.5 settings.
I have a feeling similar problems were discussed on the old Syntrillium forum, but I couldn't find the relevant posts.

Well, Grame, that was me (tcatzere). I didn't remember having posted another thread on this same subject -- and I thought it was a little longer ago, but apparently not. I must say, you have a good memory.
I started this thread because I'd like to upgrade my Reader, but I'm not interested in going through the same thing all over again. It's interesting that a couple other posts in this thread seem to corroborate what I experienced.

I don't think you were the only person to run up against this problem - it doesn't affect me, as I don't have the Reader installed on the machine I run my audio software on.
Unfortunately, I also don't know if the problem was ever even looked at by Adobe, never mind if they fixed it. Maybe SteveG has some info on that aspect.

Re: Audition 3.0 vs. Adobe Reader (pdf)
I only recall that uninstalling Acrobat 5 was an unholy disaster in terms of just about anything else you had installed from Adobe. As for fixing it - well, that was unlikely because the uninstaller is installed at the same time as you install the software. And since it allowed for installation in non-standard places, you couldn't exactly have a 'standard' fix for the problem. Or something like that, anyway...

Re: Audition 3.0 vs. Adobe Reader (pdf)
I wonder what would happen if I tried to install Adobe Reader 9 over the top of Reader 8.1 -- without first uninstalling 8.1?

Unless explicitly told not to, I always install upgrades over the existing version of any software - works for me.

How recently did this happen?
Since Adobe wrote the uninstaller for Acrobat 5 - six, seven, years ago?

The installer asks for permission to uninstall the old one first, I think. Certainly that's the way it goes with Acrobat itself.

Re: Audition 3.0 vs. Adobe Reader (pdf)
I have recently updated from Reader 8.1 (?) to Reader 9, with absolutely no effect on AA3 that I have been able to observe.
