What is the difference between the "Export-Audio mixdown",  or the right click on a wav in MV and choose "Master output Stereo session"?

I probably have the actual menu language all wrong because Im not in front of AA3 at the moment.  But i was just wondering the difference.

Easiest way to explore the differences is to simply set up a session and review them.

Though the attached screen shot of  <file> <export> <audio mix down> is in it's way pretty self explanatory

Essentially right click (or edit menu) <mix down to new file> covers one (or two) of the options of 'export'.  With a few fewer 'clicks' you create a new file from the master output bus

'Export' provides a number of other options (though all tracks does not let you exclude master output a curious oversight)

Typically one would proceed through 'Export' to render individual stems of a multi song multi track session.  I.E. Break a live set into individual songs and tracks.

OK.  I think I understand it.  MANY more options through the export menu.

Here's a quick question about the live performance task.  I did one a month ago or so where I mix the entire 4 track performace to a stereo file.  Then I messed with it, chopped it up, etc.  The ONLY way I was able to do that were the dynamics didn't change much so the effects applied worked for the entire set.

But....is there a way to highlight a range of the 4 track session, and choose that selection to open a new multi-track session and import those tracks?

OK 'nthr screen shot

whether it accomplishes exactly what you want in exactly the manner that works best for you, who knows

(as I indicated I would prefer an export option that allowed me to exclude the master bus (I can mute the master bus but if I remember correctly process still requires same length of time to run, when working against a clock to try to burn some 'immediate' CD's for impulse purchase before audience goes home that length of time can make a difference (typically in a live setting we just work off the 'master'  and break it into individual files from there but detailing when exporting master as well as individual tracks can be inconvenient even in the studio . . . point here is that AA's export function, functions differently enough from the way I work that I tend to use a different app to split a live recording into individual tunes, individual tracks)

red circled items in screen shot indicate settings about which you seem to be inquiring: 'All tracks', 'Selected range' 'insert into multitrack'

this option will insert into current session at the current time . . . it's it's not particularly difficult to remove or mute original waves, just a awkward in terms of work flow

Variaously you can simply open the exported stems into edit view close the first session open a new one and populate that with the exported files (which with the files window open can be done easily with drag and drop)

Awesome!!  That's exactly what I wanted to do.  COOL.  Thank you Smiley

Man I wish there could be a book written for AA 3.  I noticed the post in the Adobe forums.  And although I did agree with the comment that AA is a DIY program to learn all the little quirks and shortcut, a book would be cool.  But then....what we ever use the forums for?Huh?  j/k
