Effects Migration Tool
This is the official home of the unofficial Adobe Effects Migration Tool. Lovingly crafted by dedicated Adobe staffers (to whom kudos and thanks are due), but not 'official' - if you see what I mean. This tool is completely automatic, and is known to work fine with standard installations - in other words, the .xml files are exactly where the installer put them.
Instructions for use
Download and copy the file attached to this post to a new folder on your PC. Right-click on it and select 'extract here'. This will give you everything needed. All you have to do then is run AudEffects.exe which will bring up a DOS window for a moment, and carries out the procedure.
What the tool does is to read the contents of your AA2.0 effect_settings.xml file and compare the contents with the presets for the same tools in AA3.0. It then backs up your original AA3.0 effects_settings file as effects_settings.xml.backup, and creates a new file to replace it, containing all of the new effects settings, plus your personal presets from AA2.0. The one thing it won't do is to overwrite any new presets you've made in AA3.0 with presets of the same name in AA2.0 that have different settings. If you have any like this, the thing to do is to resave them in AA2.0 first with unique names before importing them.
